A big IF but if they get someone in just to the end of the season who manages to keep them up then this would be a perfect move for Dyche as a stepping stone to getting a top job and could really see him wanting it

Fingers crossed the get someone in long term or dont stay up

Why did it take so long?

I hope they do, because when Sir Sean goes to manage Arsenal, I want to ensure David Wagner is left untouched and cosseted at 'Udders for us to swoop

Hi DA, I know it goes with your user name, are you saying Sean Dyche would prefer to manage Southampton next season than continuing his exceptional performance at Burnley?

How long has Pellegrino been Soton's manager?

You mean Dyche would happy to go to a club who'd previously sacked a manager (Puel) for getting them to 8th and the League cup final?

Dyche would be shown the door if he lost a few games in charge!

Sideways move at best.

He's got our squad where he wants it, the club infrastructure where he wants it and the club is in ascendancy.

Saints fans wanted Puel fired for poor football despite a top 10 finish and a cup final....
Dyche wouldn't get the same time he's had here.

They need someone who can grind out a couple of wins to keep them up. Louis van Gaal?

I chuckle at the little statements clubs make on these occasions, in this case: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Mauricio, Carlos and Xavier for their efforts during their time with Southampton......"
Aye, thanks for taking us from 8th in the Prem in 2016/17 to the position 17th this season, one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Probably seen the impact carvahall has had at swansea. Unfortunately I think the opposite will happen here.

Saints fans are an odd bunch. Wanted Puel gone. Then wanted this guy gone way back when we played there. Be careful what you wish for.

Hope they go down.

He didn't appear very inspiring on any interviews so presumably he wasn't very inspiring in the dressing room.
Strange choice of manager at the start of the season also for a club like Southampton.

Just goes to show that there is no magic wand in football.

Can't ever remember so many managerial casualties before in the premier league, by my reckoning that's nine out of twenty teams have axed their manager. After just thirty games, Incredible!

Yes- I think it's 9 since the start of the season. Maybe one (WBA) will go for a second time soon.
Hudders, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Brighton are the only ones in the bottom half that haven't. I cant see any of those 4 sacking their managers though.

If SD went to Southampton the absolute best he could hope to achieve (and he'd need o be given time to do it) would be to match the achievements of Puel - and that wasn't deemed good enough.

In the short-term they are deep in a relegation scrap and last Saturday's performance did little to suggest they've got the players to get out of it. Silva has been linked. He's a decent bet to get 2/3 wins but he hardly seems like a long-term solution.

Can't see the point of West Brom binning Pardew now, they're gone.

They might as well take their time and have a real good look around,
so they make the right choice, rather than rushing into it.

Then bin him.

Relocation for Eddie Howe perhaps...?

I was thinking Howe would be the ideal candidate for Soton and it's a step up for him without him having to move house.

As long as what ever made Eddie Howe's wife so desperate to move away from Burnley doesn't upsticks and move to Bournemouth, I can't see Eddie moving from the Vitality Stadium.

I'm not surprised. I think both Eddie and Sean will stay put for quite a while for contrasting reasons.

Eddie because he's completely unproven elsewhere and he and Jase love Bournemouth's seafood restaurants, and Sean because I'm really starting to think he's targeting the Champions League via the Europa League. :o

Re: Mauricio Pellegrino

Sean has repeatedly indicated that he prefers being an old fashioned manager who has influence over every aspect of the club's activities - as far as I am aware there are only a few clubs in the Premier League that operate under that model now - Burnley, Arsenal (though they have initiated plans to change it) and possibly Bournemouth, Brighton, Huddersfield and Newcastle. Not much threat there I think. unless Arsenal change my minds.

I have always thought is that the biggest threat is Forest, now they have changed ownership we will see if they settle down to a steady approach, when he thinks he is done here he may then look at that

Mark Hughes, despite being an ex-Southampton player, doesn't fit Southampton's strict recruitment bill.

Marco Silva does, but whether they can prise him away from taking the Benfica job is another matter.

Whoever they appoint, it probably won't be the obvious choice. Pochettino, Puel, Pellegrino were all from leftfield.
