In all honesty, I'd let him go now.
He's been an outstanding player over the years and was quite cheap from what I remember, about a £1million or so?
He's 34 now and as you've rightly stated we've got more players in who're younger.
He'd always be remembered though for the sheer effort he put in.

It’ll be a sad day when Dean Marney does leave the club.

The improvement in Dean Marney once Sean Dyche arrived was phenomenal.
I have never seen a player improve so much with a just a change of manager.

For his outstanding service he should be allowed to go wherever he chooses but if it were possible to string Florist along and then sign for anybody else I'd love it

Unique in that hes an excellent player AND cult hero.
Hope he has a good end to his career. Rarely let us down and always gave his all.

If this is what deano wants then fair enough. He has been a massive part of our development and will be a massive miss when he goes.
If he is going he needs to make at least a cameo appearance against the Cherries.

Anywhere but Forest or WBA, what goes around, etc, etc. Obviously his choice but I'd prefer we don't deal with clubs who hasve stiffed us in the past.

That approach wont get us very far.

Wish him the best wherever he ends up. Always had some class inside, Dyche brought it out consistantly.
With Deans time potentially coming to an end who fits the "cult" player bill now?

We won't be dealing with any clubs, Marney will be a free agent.

I'd like to see him get a great send off from the Fans if he does go, hopefully he will get a Michael Duff type appearance, he's been with us almost as long.

Mee and Barnes I guess. But similar in Marney in that they are also first choice players.

Wherever he goes, he goes with my blessing. From his 1st to last game, he has always given 100% and makes a major contribution in every game he plays in.

No at the emirates where he got the injury! Taking a 94th minute penalty winner just to put the record straight on a couple of points!

Always liked Marney from day one, took a while for some to warm to him as he was a Laws signing but he always brought plenty to the table. Great in the tackle and also at driving us forward especially late in the games when we were on the back foot. Played a massive role in our promotions and in his absence in the 2 PL seasons when he was injured there was a notable turn around in form. Even under Howe when Marney was out of the side our form dipped.
He is surplus to requirements now and coming to the end of his contract however I do hope he was a good twilight to his career.
Would be good to see him out on the pitch to give him one last DEAN MARNEY DEAN MARNEY.

Argh, can't we pension him off?
He has done his time and we should respect that, if he still needs more money to see his retirement plans through, give him some. Don't make him go take one last payday at some joke club!

Any player that tries to run off a cruciate ligament tear deserves respect.
One of my favorite players of the last 10 years. One of the few things Brian Laws did right whilst in charge.
Would be gutted to see him go, but if that's what he wants, I'd wish him the best. He'd always be welcomed back with a shout of DEAN MARNEY!

As ClaretAl says, he should be given a player/coach deal, especially if we get in Europe, we will need the legs and his experience will surely help out with the U23s alongside Duff?
Obviously that may not be what he wants, but I'd hate to see him leave without being offered anything by the club.

What would be great is if he went to a club we have good relations with, and also loan them some youngsters so he can blood himself as a mentor/coach at the same time

At this stage in his career he needs to play football and it's inevitable he is not going to get full games with us next season, so he moves on with all our blessings i'm sure.
At his peak he had fantastic mobility and his passing range was non too shabby as his numerous long passes to Trippier bombing down the right exemplified.
He's put a massive effort in for our club and been central to delivering the success we are all enjoying and so on his departure he will rightly receive a huge ovation when he leaves the Turf for the final time.

A 100 percenter.
The epitome of a SD team member.
I hope he gets a run out against Arsenal.

Forest are alright...they gave us £2m for Darikwa!
(Incidentally, just over 12 months ago a poster on here was trying to tell me he thought Darikwa was a better right back than Trippier.......okaaaay then!!!)
Marney should look to get the best possible move and contract he can and he can absolutely do it with my blessing! Been superb but, at his age and with the depth we now have in his position, it’s the natural time to move on.

As others have said, he transformed under SD from a 100% never stops running, gets proper stuck in Championship player, to someone who could actually seriously influence a PL game in much more measured and subtle ways. It's also no coincidence that David Jones arrived at the start of his transformation either, as his burden in CM suddenly became shared! BUT after his latest injury and given his age it's right for all concerned that he moves on with dignity and our best wishes to somewhere he can get plenty of game time in his final couple of seasons.

Rather selfishly, I hope he doesn't. It'll mean we have nothing to play for.

Shackell
Mee
Marney
Jones
Arfield
Kightly
Ings

I love that team...it seemed to be collectively ever-present and unchanged in that great unexpected first promotion season under SD. Time to let Deano go but he has been a brilliant servant and I definitely echo Dark Cloud's opinion of how his game matured under Dyche.

I'll forever remember the brilliant tackle he made against Palace at home last season.
He'd just been booked, but he busted a gut to get back and make a brilliant tackle in our right back area when Palace were breaking.
Marvellous Marney!

That team played some of the best football I`ve seen watching Burnley. It was physical, no doubt and could be direct at times but my oh my some lovely stuff as well.

Took a pay cut and wholeheartedly bought into Dyche's training methods and philosophy. A leader in the dressing room and very effective on the pitch. What's not to love but probably best all round to move on for one last challenge.
