I'm taking my brother for a curry on Saturday night. Simple question.....where will we get the best curry?
I've searched the forums because this has been discussed before and certain names arose...Aroma, Shimla, Usha.
So, where would you go?

I don't think there are any Indian restaurants in Burnley. Some Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants doing curry, but no Indian.

I don't mind if it is Indian or Pakistani or anything else. Apparently 70% of Indian restaurants are Pakistani run. Just wonder where they serve the best curry.

I've not been too keen on restaurant curries from around here, however after a recommendation to try Shimla, I did just that.
Best curry I've had from a restaurant in this ( although I've not tried aroma across the road yet.
I had an Asian style curry and it was amazingly tasty. I'd also look at the combo sizzling starter, the table next to us ordered it, and it looked and smelt great.
The bonus is you can take your own beer/wine in, with no extra charges.
We ordered..
1 x Asian style curry
1 x Chicken tikka Biryani ( medium sauce, not the veg they offer )
1 x Chips
1x Cheesy naan
And I had change from £25
My usual takeaway comes to around that.

i’d also say Simla Spice is my preferred eat in curry. Usha was Ok in the past, but it’s out of the way and a few years ago it was on the slide. May have turned itself round though. Aroma can be a bit hit and miss on quality, I’d go there if Simla Spice was full, it is licencsed though.

Shimla Spice without any shadow of doubt...I would say that Usha would be my second choice but the Desi dishes at Shimla are superb and you will not find a larger Naan bread I am sure.
Plus you take your own alcohol so the final bill is very reasonable.

Shimla Spice is ok if you like eating in a cattle shed with scruffs taking in bin bags of ale. Crammed in like sardines with a hygiene rating of 2. Also the food is distinctly average at best.
Go over the road to Aroma, it's a class above Shimla in style and food. There's a reason it's been around so long. Think it was called Shalamar years ago.

Get in the car and go to Shajan on the A59. Some way better than any of the places in Burnley

I totally agree regarding the above.but he did appear to want a local restaurant.Downside to Shajan is that you are quite likely to see a Rovers player or two eating there.

Not many people would recognise their players these days.

I’m driving over from Wetherby, a good 1 hour 45 mins drive on a Saturday afternoon, so just want to pick my brother up, have a curry (5pm) and then go to the classical concert at St Peters.
Will be driving home after so not drinking any alcohol.
Aroma and Shimla are both very close to St Peters, however Shimla doesn’t open until 5.30pm.

Try and support the local economy when people ask for places in Burnley to eat.
Please don't recommend out of town places. You're just supporting other towns.

So. What we are looking for is a curry house, close to St. Peter’s centre that is open either before, or at 17:00?
This should be easy...
Anyway, Usha used to be good, went off for a while, now is good again. Never had a bad curry in the aroma, but had two bad ones from two at shimla.
I always get the same dish, sheesh kebab, then chicken tikka madras with naan. It just means consistency when I rate one against the other.
So for me it would be aroma, Usha, then anywhere BUT shimla. Jaipur in padiham I have yet to try but mates rate it.
Enjoy!

Agra curries are nice enough. Had a takeaway from Bombay Hut not long after it opened, was a bit bland but maybe it's improved.
Best takeaways in my opinion are Shagor, Premier curries although sometimes they're inconsistent, and Asha Brierfield.

The Jaipur in Colne is also good, and always have offers on 2 for 1 etc.
For takeaways we've had two from Adams in Nelson, and they've been top notch each time. Proper Asian style curry, none of this bland smooth paste you tend to get in the Burnley restaurants.

Chicken Karahi, Chicken Jalfrezi, 2 roti, garlic naan and 2 pilau rice, with salad, was £12.60 or something.
As you say, bob on.
