Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Would have been happier if we'd got him on the first attempt. Good back up for the squad, but I can't see him shifting anyone in our defence.
If Sean still wants him , that's good enough for me.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Even Sean admitted in January that we were one man short in the centre of defence although I'm not so sure Dawson would be the man this time. I still think the more likely move would be for a younger central defender who will not be a first choice.Colburn_Claret wrote:Would have been happier if we'd got him on the first attempt. That would make more sense to me. I could see Dawson wanting a starting spot wherever he goes.ClaretTony wrote:Even Sean admitted in January that we were one man short in the centre of defence although I'm not so sure Dawson would be the man this time. Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
A decent PL player who can double up at RB. As said above not better than Tarks and Mee and I can't see him coming to get splinters. He'd be excellent in a back 3 but I can't see this happening.
Bags a few as well.

I’ve never been a big fan of signing players from relegated teams. Sign too many of them and you tend to end up in the relegation zone.
I appreciate we’ve done it successfully in the past. If Dyche wants him that’ll do me.

I wouldn't be too unhappy if we didn't bother with this one. The player and his club messed us around more than once and I'm sure there are plenty of other, younger defenders with more scope to improve available. The whole saga comes across a little 'Henri Lansbury' to me.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Another CD is certainly a priority this summer. Whether Dawson is now the right man I'm not too sure. That said he does come up with the odd goal. No I'm not hedging my bets, I think we should be looking at a younger defender like the lad at Brentford. Although still very much a rookie, he always caught the eye when I've seen him and he will have been well coached coming through the Chelsea academy.

Perhaps the writing is already on the Tarkowski wall.

Realistically if a big offer from a top six club comes in and they offer to double his wages he'll be off despite what he's said.

Would be a good signing. He's younger than I realised (27) and likely hasn't reached his peak yet. Also offers a goal threat on corners.

Manchester City: Can't see it
Manchester United: Unlikely but not impossible
Liverpool: Not now they have Van Dyck
Tottenham: Fair chance if Alderweireld or Vertonghen move on they develop young English talent
Chelsea: Again unlikely
Arsenal: They definitely need defenders but can't see it

I don't want to see him go but if he does go to and play well at the World Cup the press will build up an unstoppable momentum to sell him.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Would be a great signing. Did a good job at RB for West Brom so we could move Bardsley on.
Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Can't see this happening
At 27 he would want first team football, he will not move our current defence. He would be a CB, RB cover, it would be a great signing, but would he be willing to play cup games and the odd league game
If we qualify for Europe however, it could be a different story.
To think that we would pay this sort of money for a squad player shows how far we have come.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Tarks won't be going anywhere. Dawson would be decent cover, although he would have to up his game
Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Exactly what I was going to say. Van Dijk and Tarky would be a formidable partnership and both of them can play out from the back. It'd probably take a fee of around £30m though and after Keane's season with Everton some might be reluctant to pay that much.piston broke wrote:He would be perfect alongside Van Dijk and would improve Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Tarky out for £30m with Dawson and Worrall coming in for a similar figure wouldn't be disastrous. Dawson was tremendous under Pulis; just think how good he'd be under Dyche!!

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Would a key to keeping our better players be to reward performance using the money gained for each position above 17th? Basic wages cannot be raised to a point that threaten the security of the club, but performance related pay could help improve our ability to retain players.

If Tarkowski gets a few England caps, especially during the World Cup then I reckon we will struggle to keep him away from one of the top 6 clubs, contract or not.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Would be a fantastic signing imo
SD would soon improve him as he has JT and BM.
Would then compete with these two for the 2 places at the back and needed if Burnley qualify for the Europa League
Only 27 and only £10 million
Rob Holding would be a great alternative

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Tarks is obviously happier up north than down south.
From what I have read, he is very close to his parents and his mum was very ill a couple of years ago, hence his keenness to get back up north from Brentford.
Man United would be the obvious destination if he excels for England. Jones is back on the injured list and Mourinho is threatening a big summer recruitment drive. A lot though depends I think if he can break into the England fold, while we know how good he's been, I doubt anyone would offer really big money based on his relatively low experience in the Premier League.

At 27 he’s in his prime – and (probably) getting relegated.
He’s seen was Sean Dyche is doing to players and he’ll fancy at bit of it.
He’d take a pay cut and walk here if he thinks were after him.
I’d be very happy with him and he’s a definite upgrade.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
The one thing I really do like about Dawson is his scoring potential, he always seems to be there or there about on corners and free kicks. It is really hard to believe he only has 12 goals for the Baggies.
Perhaps we would look at him again but I'm fairly sure he will want a starting berth, he is too good to warm a bench.

Chris Brunt as well.
He (quite rightly) called Pardew out as a useless
bell end. Maybe that wasnt the phraseology, but you get the drift. Excellent player, but who would he displace?

I don't see why he would have to be a replacement. We have 3 central defenders and we need 4.

Dawson would be a smart addition to the squad giving good competition for CB and RB but suspect if, as likely, other clubs come in for him we may be priced out of the market in terms of wages

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
I think the urgency and quantity will depend on the small matter of Europe. If by some strange miracle we did qualify then having just 3 centre backs would need to be addressed quickly. All transfer dealings this summer will be massively influenced by the Europe Factor.

For £10m he would be an excellent signing.
Everyone is a squad player, it's the one who pushes hardest gets the shirt. The whole defence will therefore be improved whoever gets the nod from SD.

Re: ARTICLE: Dawson again linked with move to Burnley
Id be happy with Dawson, but dont think he'll be replacing Tarks just yet. At the moment as a club we're developing at a rate that suits him. Next season could be a taste of Europe. Maybe a year later he'll be at a stage where he wants champions league football, but I can't see him wanting to move until he's a shoe in starter in a champions league team.
In the current market and with him just signing a new contract you'd possibly be looking nearer 50 than 25 million for Tarks. Hard to believe im typing that sentence about a Burnley player....and one that's only found himself in our first team over the last year.
Scary to think of the potential fees we'd be commanding for both him and Pope. Hard to think of many English players who have made such an impact in such a short space of time, never mind two from the same club, in the same season.
