There can be no more noble deed than to sacrifice your own life to save that of another person.

Here in France we are humbled by the heroism and altrusim of this man.

Traditionally this epithet was applied to Italians, not the French.

He did his duty impeccably.

It was a most brave and honourable act and we should remember him accordingly.
