The “you let your country down” chant
I hate it when the CFS sing this to England players but surely for consistency they should sing it to Tarks?

It’s quite embarrassing really. Away fans look absolutely bemused by it too.

Yep, I’m sure the whole purpose of the song is to make away fans think ‘WTF?’. In fact, now that you mention it, I’m sure that’s the reason.Quickenthetempo wrote:That might be the reason they sing it?

Anyone who sings it is letting their family down.

Should be reserved for Scottish international players at the moment shouldn’t it?

Yay. We can also sing it to our Irish lads, Vokesy and Arfield. None of them even qualified for the WC.

I think he's the wrong colour for that chant.

Trying to imply it's only sung at Sterling because he's black are we?
I don't remember anyone saying it was racist when people abused Beckham after WC 98

To say I have heard the chant to three players Sterling, Hart and Rooney.aggi wrote:I think he's the wrong colour for that chant.
What colour do you have to be? Hair products is more the likely link.

There's plenty of racism in the world, but you're barking up the wrong tree if you think this chant is.

Bizarrely Oxlade-Chamberlain got it as well.
Worst song in football.
Worst song in football.
Re: The “you let your country down” chant
It's in reference to the lengthy thread on here to do with that chant and Sterling (although the main thing I remember from the thread was Rowls becoming more and more desperate in his attempt to justify making up a quote).

Re: The “you let your country down” chant
I don't recall the thread myself, but it doesn't surprise me that some of the less, erm, refined posters on here would resort to thinly veiled racism in the thread. Doesn't mean the majority of those singing it at the Turf are racist though.
It's still a shite song either way.

The Jack Walker chant makes me feel embarrassed to be associated with the idiots singing it. It wasn't clever when he died and it isn't now.Imploding Turtle wrote:Anyone who sings it is letting their family down.

Unfortunately there's a section of fans who will call you all sorts of names for disliking us singing that song, who will say things like "we're just trying to create an atmosphere", equating not singing it to a tacit approval of the gentrification of football including goal music, cheerleaders and worst of the lot, a drum. Usually conveniently forgetting that you can create atmosphere by singing all sorts of songs, not just limited to downright evil ones like the JW one.
