any best guesses of what it could be worth to us if we manage it ?

It might cost us more than we gain. Good money from Premier League for a 7th place finish but would this cover the extra games if we got in the Europa League? (travel, accommodation etc). Also would it affect our league progress next season with the extra games and travel possibly making players tired and Thursday night and Sunday games perhaps bothering some supporters and upsetting team rythym.

Have to get through the qualifying to the group stage before we make any money - though qualifying matches are sold to tv on a game by game basis I think - I cannot see us as being a significant attraction to tv companies to fork out that much.

The costs are significant though - match day bonus, travel etc, really early start to competitive fixtures in pre-season, and attendances will be scrutinised by many

The one plus side that no-one has mentioned is that the chance of " European Football ", may be an attraction to potential signings when we're looking to improve the squad during the Summer .....

It's a double edged sword, but if we were to reach the later stages and be comfortable in the Premier League, it would be considered a success.

I'm not sure I want it, but if we get it, I want to progress as far as is possible. And let's not forget, compared to the Championship, we have 8 games less. It's extra work, but not impossible.

Look at the teams such as Swansea and Southampton that recently played in the Europa league, it might not be a popular opinion but I'll be happy with 8th until we build a strong enough squad to cope with such adventures

Swansea and Saints have poor business models, we have Dyche.

Financially we may not be better off in the immediate short term, however as its already been mentioned we can attract a better standard of player plus it may help get our name out further than it is already.

Plus you get to see European football at TM, who doesn't want that?

An increase in the value of our sponsorship deals.
Further opportunities to derive match day income.
European experience could add to player valuation.
We get more from the playing squad for the weekly wages we pay.

Supporters wishing to attend every game will need to expend quite a bit more.

Never mind how much the Club may, or may not make.

It's going to cost Accy Clarets a fortune to refit!

A sign of our growth on the world stage. TNS and then Shamrock drivers will do nicely. Valletta or their ilk too. Easy passage and travel with a bit of sun.

Up the Claretos!

Ps....none of those nasty foreign clubs with Ultras!

We may never be in this position again so with a chance to qualify for Europe and some of us never seeing Burnley play in a European competition before I'm more then happy for this to happen :)

If we qualify for Europe it could bring a whole host of problems. We would probably have to increase our squad size which has greater implications than just financial. Players sat on the bench are not always easy to manage one would imagine, however Dyche seems to have this down to a tee.

All these problems are irrelevant though. I would love is to make Europe even at the expense of the premier league form (although not prem league status). Also we could just stick the dev squad in the domestic cup games. Probably wouldn’t need to increase the squad by much then

I can not believe people are not more enthusiastic about playing in Europe. It may be that the Europa League has been devalued over the years in the same way as the FA Cup has been but still as it stands there could be fixtures against clubs like Lazio, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, Seville, Valencia. It would be nights like that that will stay in the memory a lot longer than a trip to Bournemouth or whatever.

I totally agree. I can't get my head around the fact that some people don't want us to qualify for Europe! EUROPE! How many of you honestly thought you'd get the chance to see the Clarets play away in Europe during your lifetime? Imagine being able to travel to the SAN SIRO cheering on the lads on a European night! It's what dreams are made of! If you'd rather us not qualify for Europe, what is the point of it all?

If progress means a place in the Europa League then
let's enjoy it and give a good go. Otherwise what's the point?

Obviously it brings different and more difficult challenges as already mentioned
(travel, thursday - sunday games for a period) but it also provides us with some opportunities
- bringing on younger players, broader experience for current players and extra revenue.

Far from certain however that Dyche wants it at this stage although
he'd take it on if it happens and I'm sure he'll go out in remaining games
to do our best.

Our aim is to become an established premier league club, anything which has the likely hood to get in the way of that aim should be avoided.

A European trip would help attract better players, promote the brand and further our efforts to stay in the PL.

We need to grab the opportunity with both hands. Last season we let go a massive chance to get to the later stages of the FA cup. We might never get a better chance of europe again. You cant pick when you want to succeed in football.

The qualifiers are early. But they’re to poor standard of teams that we can treat as pre season.

Europa doesn’t mean Relegation.

Also what is an established PL club? What does it means?

Absolutely spot on. We wont be in the PL for ever. We probably wont be in 5 years. So lets enjoy and grab opportunities.

Don't bother with away games these days so cant say if it would be any interest to go to some old eastern block country.
But a European qualification would show just how far the club as come.
Like some on here seen the bad and the good, surely got to embrace the good.

Top 6 are established. Every other team, including Everton, Leicester, etc., has a primary objective of staying up and then do the best they can.

And just imagine a two leg tie against Merthyr Tydfil or Wrexham (do they have an airport at Wrexham?)

Have to agree with BigF - the higher up the Premier League we finish, the more merit money we make. I think it is about £2 million per place and we are all but guaranteed a top nine finish, so finishing seventh would be worth a further £4 million.

However, clubs make losses on the Europa League. There's no money to be had in it generally and it will cost. We'd also need a bigger squad to deal with it bringing further expenditure.

So, financially at least, we would actually be better off finishing 8th.

We might never qualify for it again.

We might never be this high up ever again.

We can't win it if we are not in it. And it might be fanciful that we might win it, but I have to be honest now, I'd be gutted if we didn't qualify for it now because we so deserve it.

Good point BigF but, do you think Sean Dyche would let that happen?

I'd rather put the Reserves out and concentrate on the League.

The Premier league is the be all and end all to me. I personally won't get much pleasure in seeing a European side from a third rate football country down on the turf, if it will in anyway effect our Premier league status.
I can't see the attraction of playing teams from Ireland, Malta or Eastern Europe who are little known, its like England playing Costa Rica or Tunisia

I'm amazed at the negativity of some fans and the prospect of playing in Europe. I understand the argument that it has affected some clubs league form but that's not guaranted to happen. It's only 2 seasons ago we were playing 46 league games in the championship (not the same standard but it's still 90 minutes of football.)
The positives for the club would be massive and for me as a fan, it would be unbelievable to see my beloved clarets in Europe. UTC

Whether we qualify for Europe or not there is no guarantee our league form won't dip next season.

We could do well in the Europa League also look at some of the sides that have reached QF'S and beyond recently.

Fulham won the Inter-toto thing to qualify and made it all the way to the final.

Do you think the likes of Defour would have this attitude the guy is a winner.

What's all this guff about losing money playing in the Europa league? Where's the evidence? Hotels and flights costing more than TV rights and extra sponsorship.

Attracting better players and getting our name around Europe would be huge. Sure some of the teams are crap but there's also some good European teams in there too.

I was stood next to the Chairman and his son yesterday in the away end and he was beaming with pride as the 'Were all going on a European tour' rung out from the away end.

He certainly didn't look like a guy that was worried about losing money if we qualified, thank God he's not as weary as someone of the wet wipes on here about the Europa league.

It's certainly a very interesting debate and one most of us ever thought we'd be having. If you look at the financial rewards attached to the Europa league on the UEFA website they really aren't great. IF you actually win it you get (I think) about 15 million for your overall participation which definitely isn't to be sniffed at. Neither is the accompanying entry to next year's CL which is worth zillions. However you'd need to deduct significant travel costs, costs of increasing the squad size, the possibility of more injuries and the possible knock on effects on league form following long trips to Wherethehellisstan for Thursday night games. Unless you do win the competition it appears it COULD probably cover the costs involved as long as you make some reasonable progress, but it might even be a financial burden. The increased publicity and accompanying kudos is difficult to quantify and if you end up playing one of Europe's top teams home and away it could be a fantastic experience. (And financially lucrative!)
I remember both Bolton and Stoke having forays into it in recent years and tbh it didn't seem to do them a lot of good.
Anyway, if BK is smiling at the prospect then I'm happy too as Barry knows his onions when it comes to the finances of BFC.
