I wonder if when you were born / became a Claret affects your attitude to our position

Those old enough to have enjoyed the early successes of the 50’s and 60’s surely see this as our rightful place, and more recent Clarets will have known little else for the last few years
Those who started following early 80s and 90s will see this as incredulous we never thought we’d see the day.

The latter is me! I started watching in the mid eighties and can’t believe where we are now. I feel so blessed to see us at the highest table of English football, I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I’d ever see us here.

In our recent barren spell the usual doom mongers unable to complain about our position (which is the best in generations) turned to the 'unattractive football' argument just to have something to feel entitled over.
There will be some idiots who will consider not bettering this season's finish to be abject failure in the next, despite the league now becoming the top 6 and the rest.

I'm not really sure what the OP means by demanding more.

As long as it's not ridiculous and there's a bit of reality behind it, as in what we want, then we all should want more.

The manager will be demanding more from the board and his players and we're no different.

We already have posters on here talking about Europe next season being a certainty, rather than a possibility.

Pride comes before a fall people!

I've always said that it's the added bullsh1t that some come out with when things don't go to plan.

There's nowt wrong with being confident.

I was thinking this myself.
If next season we finish 11th for example, will we have the ‘bloody rubbish Burnley’ brigade at it?

My first game was 1975. Started going regularly 1980/81 so success was winning the 3rd division. What followed is well documented and for those fortunate not to have seen it, think of football as bad as you have seen. I promise you we were ten times worse. For Burnley to be in the top flight was pure fantasy. To now be looking forward to a third successive season in the Premier and European football a realistic prospect is beyond even fairytale stuff.

Enjoy where we are cos it's bloody brilliant. UTC

The longer we're in the PL the worse fans will get.

Some wanted Dyche out last season, but this time round they're a lot calmer.
If we become a mid table club in the medium term then fans will start to get agitated and want to win something or see the club push the boat out on bigger and more expensive signings.

Then they'll want the manager out etc.

That drenching wet night on the turf when we won the title was one of my real highs, along with the milk-cup home win against Liverpool had to wait for York after that. The Orient game had far to much fear for it to register as joy - the relief was amazing though

I think most of the danger biscuits have stayed away from the forum, or embraced our current league position.

Its been quite refreshing not having to deal with their diatrabe.

I've waited 40 years for this, and I'm only interested in soaking up every minute of every game, win, lose or draw.
I would hope everyone on here does the same because when it's gone you might not see it again in your lifetime.

My first season as a season ticket holder was 1986-87.

This season has been better than that one.

Not quite. Those old enough to have enjoyed the 50s & 60s are wise enough to know pride comes before a fall. We have been through so many promotions and relegations we know it is all temporary so enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Our rightful place is about Div 1.

This club and town is something special in football terms.

I remember the Charlton fans who'd pop up on 606 saying Curbishly had taken them as far as he could and they wanted someone new in to " take them to the next level". I really hope that we don't end up in that situation in the near future. I don't get how fans simply can't enjoy where we are. I went out in Brum on Sat night and I just couldn't stop smiling. Let's enjoy this season!!

Entitled fans at Stoke wanted Pulis out because he had taken them as far as he could. Entitled Southampton fans weren't happy with Puel landing them an 8th place finish & a cup final last season. Entitled West Brom fans weren't happy with Pulis earlier this season.

We have benefited from a level headed board that put absolute faith in a fantastic manager & instilled stability in the club.

As claret wizard said we should just enjoy the good times.

Spot on but you can be 100% certain if we don't look like finishing top 10 next season there'll be plenty of grumbling. If it looks like a relegation scrap we'll be screaming for someone's head. We're no different to fans of any other club, it's just human nature.

I also started in 86/87 when we were dangerously close to being the worst professional side in England so I appreciate being the 7th best today. But just watch if we end up being 8th best. There'll be outrage at a missed opportunity and wailing about lack of ambition and how we need investment to take us to the 'next level'.

You have always got to set targets, whilst trying to improve year on year.
When the whole set up from chairman down to fan gives everything to the cause, there's no reason to moan.
It won't last forever, so enjoy it whilst it is here.

Sometimes your supposed "failure" can be down to your previous sucess.

We could make top six one year but it’d take a season such as the one where Leicester won the league, and pretty much all the big boys had stinkers.

Being greedy, the most I might hope for is a cup win and not to be expected to go down.

The vast majority are realistic and don't show any sense of entitlement. People are talking about Europa League simply because it's a possibility that's all. There's only a very small handful of people on here that wait in the wings for a deterioration and can't wait to criticise at the first opportunities.

Seen and been involved at both ends of that spectrum. Magical times when I was growing up never to be forgotten; thoroughly miserable times too often when I was taking my children on. We still go on together now but we know who we are and where we've come from and the means by which we've achieved it. None of us feel entitled and any suggestion is quickly dismissed. We still go on the game hoping for a good result but definitely never expecting one. Personally, I kicked that one into touch in January 1975 after an FA Cup tie at home to a Southern League. club.

Im confident of Europe.

Not becuase I demand or billy big ******** or whatever. But because I know what this team we have is capable of. Would I be surprised? No. Would I be surprised if we went to City/Utd/Bayern/Barca and won. No I wouldnt. I wont demand a season like this again. We will start next season as one of the favourites to go down. If we do so what? Its football. Only that. So when my team is in pole position to qualify for Europe im gonna bloody enjoy that.

We dont have a WHU/Everton mentality where we demand europe or whatever. The simple stat is after 31 league games we are in pole position. Only 7 games to play. We’ve been here all season even when a winless run came. We’ve seen it time and time again with Sean here, once we get in front we are ******* hard to pass.

Been watching since 1950-if we finish 11th next season it will be bloody marvellous again. In fact I would take 11th next season now.
In the 50's there was a pretty level playing field, but for us-since 1992 in particular when all the money came into the Prem-it has been an uphill battle. During that time we have seen many a club slide down that slope past us-Coventry, Portsmouth, Rovers, Bradford,Blackpool, Bolton, Wigan, Wolves, Southampton Leeds MK Dons,Derby to name a few and we have slowly climbed to just below the summit. What an achievement when most of the climb has been without much oxygen. Sherpa Dyche really made that climb seem easier even if it wasn't.

To me, the ones who are going to be the issue if we don't do as well are going to be the ones who are either older (remember Div 1) and the relatively new. Anyone who started watching in the 80s and early 90s will be over the moon if we can stay in the prem for a few years, let alone have a European campaign.

I originally started watching with my Dad in the old Brunshaw Rd stand back in the early 60's. I got properly hooked when I was old enough to go with my mates in the early/mid 70's and that coincided with our last golden era (well 3/4 years of relative success!) when we did well in the top flight. When we were relegated in '76, I (like many others) believed it was a temporary blip and we'd be back up pronto. The reality proved far from it and over a number of seasons I came to realise we'd NEVER compete at the top table ever again and we were destined to be also rans among the dead men of English football, having the odd better year and occasional promotion in the lower leagues. The formation of the PL with it's mega rich clubs just reinforced that view and seemed something we could only ever watch from afar. I traipsed around watching us lose at clubs like Torquay, York, Orient, Darlington, Walsall et al and simply enjoyed the beer because the footy was utterly awful. So to be where we are now and me turning 60 in 2 weeks is an absolute miracle to folk like me and the past 5 years has been a blur and seems it might even be a dream. I absolutely love it. The ground is just about full every home game, the footy is actually real quality (try watching at Exeter on a Tuesday night if you don't agree), the away games are competitive and we have a chance of getting something wherever we pitch up.PLUS we are solvent and being held up as a role model for other similar clubs to follow. like everyone I have the odd gripe. Like SD picking X to start instead of Y or not subbing Z at the right time - IMO! But in truth? No complaints whatsoever from me, even if next season we went down with less points than Derby did. The last 5 years (even the relegation season) have more than made up for all the years in the wilderness. Happy enough!

I guess we all follow a football club in the hope of success. I mean my Dad saw us play in Europe and win the league. I saw us through the 80's. What we have now is the best I have seen. Expectant no, hopeful yes. I don't buy into this 'it may be the only chance we get' scenario. It clearly isn't as we have been here before; albeit a long time ago. I don't see any reason why we can't maintain a stable footing and it was the current Premier League Champions Elect manager, who said 'Burnley are only three or four players short of a team challenging for the title'. Far fetched maybe, but the sentiment suggests we're on the right track. It'd be nice to see us challenging in Europe again but it won't be the first time and it won't be the last. It's just been a while!

I’m relatively easy going, so as long as we have SD at the helm I’ll be happy. I’m hoping, but pretty confident that, the remainder of his tenure will strengthen the reputation of the club, and we will be able to attract the players and managers that have, so far, been the preserve of the top 10 teams.
