So, I am having a quiet easter Sunday, so decided to fire up Championship Manager 97/98 and play as the Clarets.
However, I wasn't that big a fan until 2001 when i went to me first game (none of my immediate family are Clarets, so had to wait until i was working to travel up from Wiltshire), so haven't really got too much knowledge of the team of that time. I obviously know (not so) many of the team but anyone able to help? What formation, what players should start, etc?
I have attached the squad screen for reference.
TIA

Howey in defence.
Brass right back
Little right mid
Ford centre mid
They are who I remember being best on CM in those days from that squad. Needs a lot of improvement on the game.

That screen shot took me back
If memory serves, Mark Ford is quite good in that game as is Lee Howey

There was a youth player who never played for Burnley who was superb for Burnley around that time. Can't remember his name but he used to score 30 a season from CAM.

Try to get a young E Heskey on loan from Leicester City. You won’t be able to afford him but you might get him for 3 months

Ha ha at least three of them will never play for Burnley again.
Stan the man said so. "Howey,Winstanley will never play for Burnley again and to a lesser extent Williams wont because the fans wont take to him"
WHAT A MAN.

Brad Maylett? Was unreal on it. Was that the one where Duff became one of the best players on earth on it?

There was a player, think called Tyrone Berry possibly, who played CAM or on each wing, after 4/5 games I used to have half the Premier League teams bidding for him, think it was CM 99/00 game.

5-3-2 there, with Payts and Cook up front.
Jamie Hoyland should be good as a DM, but you do need to experiment.
Not sure how you'd do if you didn't bring anybody else in, but Ford was a lot better on CM than he was in real life!

What a player. I don't know if it was just my game, or if he was always like that (RNGsus etc), but by the time he was 24 he had 20 in every important stat (finishing, positioning, speed etc) and less than 8 in all the rest.
Was it definitely 99/00? I know it's splitting hairs, but I thought it was 00/01?

Wait until after you've played Stockport then swap Barnes for Payton.

Just do what I do, keep escaping the game until you win or draw each match.

David Collins was unbelievable. Behind the front 2 guaranteed over 8 average and 30 goals. He was a real person I think? That screenshot gave me shivers. I've been on the wagon of CM for over 10 years now, please don't tempt me to get back on it. I have to go to work these days and pay bills

I don't think Payton was with us in July 97 it was Barnes and Payts came to us from Huddersfield with Barnes in the other direction around early 1998 before transfer deadline.

No it was David Collins. I think Sandra was good on the game but as an out and out striker.

Apparently David Collins was a mate of one of the researchers which is why he always ended up so good.

The assumption being that to play such an old game, one would need an old apparatus upon which to play it.
Steam power being a very old power source and steam being created by a boiling kettle....

I would immediately list Howey, Blatherwick, Winstanley and Williams and tell them they will never play for you again

DOSBOX. I unfortunately can't remember where i downloaded but it was all above board and amazingly free!
Just google Championship Manager 2 for 95/96 season or Championship Manager 96/97 (also a 97/98 version - the first screenshot.)
