New Zealand v England - Last Day
New Zealand set 342 to win at the close of play yesterday.
Stuart Broad taken 2 wickets from his first two balls this morning and there is a possibility of 98 overs (though there won't be) today.
Great chance of a win for England.

I really want one of those Whitebait sarnies.
Cooked with egg and the fish not the northern hem' version of Whitebait.
Can hardly concentrate on the cricket - googling how to import the fish!
Gifted some wickets by NZ so far - next one is crucial but it may take time.

Only Broad and Anderson are wicket-taking test match bowlers, you have to take 20 wickets but the back-up bowlers have been poor on this tour. Combined with some indifferent batting, England are a mediocre side and got what they deserved, with or without sandpaper.

There were some bowling figures posted on the BBC site earlier (to illustrate the Jimmy/Broad reliance): (for the whole 7-test tour)
Broad/Anderson 47 wkts @ 29.2
All other bowlers added together 34 wickets @ 72.85.
We really need another quick + spinner to step up soon.
Not even getting into the batting.

Not just this tour really.CleggHall wrote:Only Broad and Anderson are wicket-taking test match bowlers, you have to take 20 wickets but the back-up bowlers have been poor on this tour. We now seem incapable of holding our own anywhere abroad.
England wouldn't have batted the final day out as New Zealand did to draw that game because we aren't good enough.
Goodness knows what will happen to our bowling when Anderson and Broad pack in as we seem to have little coming through from the counties.

That is a major worry for the next Ashes series if Jimmy or Stuart retire/or are injured the attack looks powderpuff even in English conditions.
Leach by all accounts did ok.
Credit to the Kiwis dug in and ground a result out proper test match cricket.

The batsmen who aren’t really good enough to get into the test team but do on the basis that they slap the bowlers who aren’t really good enough for the test team all over the county grounds... And the in some games vice versa in the bowlers favour. It’s gone on for years and eventually we were going to end up shite. Christ we even managed to lose a Test Match at HOME to the West Indies.LeadBelly wrote:There were some bowling figures posted on the BBC site earlier (to illustrate the Jimmy/Broad reliance): (for the whole 7-test tour)
