If we don't get a penalty on Saturday...

.... how will you be 'celebrating' the first anniversary of our last penalty in the league on Sunday? Personally I'll be spending the day falling over when anyone touches me (as I'm entitled to do).

It's been that long, I was thinking that Ron Futcher scored our last penalty.

Who would be our assigned penalty taker? Wood?

It’s probably still Graham Alexander

We haven't had one since Sean Dyche became manager - he leaves it up to the players and we've had Austin, Wallace, Ings, Vokes, Arfield, Taylor, Barnes, Gray & Wood all take one in that time.

I remember the abuse Ings got on here when Taylor hit the post vs Leicester.

Sunderland in the last game of 2016, Barnes scored. We had five away from home last season with Barnes, Gray & Vokes all scoring two each. The previous league penalty on the Turf prior to Sunderland was Gray's against Blackburn.

And to think against Grimsby in 1909 we got 4 in the same game - and missed 3 of them!

Did we not go 2 full years without getting a penalty a few years ago?

If we could finish 7th or even 6th without being awarded a single penalty all season, it would be something for the record books I reckon.

Two each must be 6 not 5

If we had 5 away from home last season how can Barnes, Gray and Vokes all haver scored two each? Just asking like.

Why narrow it down to just the league?
We've had a penalty this season, we've had 6 in the last 15 months or so.
Why single it out as us not having a league penalty, on a saturday, when the wind is easterly, when Sean's got black boxers on?

Especially if you factor in the non-penalties that were awarded against us. What IS it with us and referees as far as penalties go, or are we just too honest? I know Dyche hates cheating in the game so maybe our lot are too afraid to dive.

Arfield wasn't afraid to dive at Goodison

Because going a full year without a penalty in the league is somthing worthy of comment, especially given that we've managed to do so well in that year. If you want to start a thread about penalties in the league cup be my guest!

I don't believe there is a conspiracy but strange things DO happen to make you think otherwise. I remember a few years ago United didn't conceded a single penalty at home for 7 (that's seven) years. Someone in his biography (I can't remember just who but he was an Italian player) said that to get a penalty at Old Trafford Japp Stamm would have to mow someone down with a machine gun and even then the ref would have to consult the linesman.
Anyway who needs 'em, we're doing fine without them.

For those 7 years Man Utd were one of the best teams in world football. They always had the ball. There are reasons behind teams not conceding penalties, and there are reasons behind teams not being awarded them.
The major one is the time the ball and the play is in the relevant penalty areas.

Well no, but then I guess Swansea aren’t that arsed about our penalty stats either. Do you think we’ll have a thread about Swansea’s game this weekend, or their transfer window in the summer? Do you think their might be a reason for this?

If we do get a pen, how about a prolonged goal celebration. Just to remind the football world of the ones we should have had.

I'm going to celebrate by pointing at everything the way Mike Dean pointed at the penalty spot last Friday for Cardiff's second penalty against Wolves. One day in the distant future, when the rest of the world catches up to us and evolves a sixth finger, I hope the ref that awards us that overdue penalty points to the spot the way Mike Dean pointed to the spot all those millennia ago.

They were very good admittedly but 7 years? And there were some very obvious ones not given (don't ask for examples I'm not that bothered). 7 years amounts to about 140 or so games, give or take, so what you are saying is United were that good they should never have conceded a penalty at home in 140 games? United were no better than say Barcelona now (if they were even ever that good) but I'll bet Barca have conceded one or two in the last 7 years. SOMETHING was swaying referees at that time, I don't know what it was, the crowd, Fergie, who knows, but that is an awful long time to be penalty free at home, no matter how good you are.
