Re: Mee out for the season
Sort of came out last week after the Watford game from Sean Dyche - but Burnley Express have run with it today ahead of the press conference. Same injury as last season but opposite leg.

Didn't this happen with Michael Keane around this time last year? A terrible coincidence losing one of our main centre halves at the same point of the season....

Re: Mee out for the season
It happened with both of them and Mee was the first of the two to drop out - same injury as now, just the other leg. Mee came off in the Man U home game and then missed the rest of the season. Keane played in the following week and dropped out once we were mathematically safe.Herts Clarets wrote:Didn't this happen with Michael Keane around this time last year? Re: Mee out for the season
News breaks in press that he is stalling on a new contract and that various teams are after him, then he doesn't play for the rest of the season with limited information being released...
I might be a cynic, but that sounds suspicious.

Bardsley and Taylor have both played CB in the past.

It is a little of a concern, but much less so now as we're not embroiled in a relegation battle.
Re: Mee out for the season
Taylor and Bardsley I'd have thought. Taylor is 4th choice CB.Rick_Muller wrote:Who's covering Long on the bench...?
The bench should be an interesting one, should GKN & Arfield not be fit.
Taylor will then be CB, LB and Winger Cover....
Good job we've 4 fit GK's now, they'll be able to slot straight in, I knew there was a reason for us having 4 GK's but only 3 CB's

Didn’t he pick up a similar injury towards the end of last season or was that something different?

So have I, but you wouldn't want me in there up against Vardy or Aubameyang either.

Hmm a bit concerning this, very similar to the way Boyd and Arfield were unceremoniously dumped once it became clear they wouldn't be signing a new deal.

Re: Mee out for the season
I'll not believe it until Dyche says that he's 'touch and go'.
Re: Mee out for the season
Ward has played centre back before, I'd rather see him move across and Taylor step in at left back.

Re: Mee out for the season
That's not what Sean Dyche said after the Watford game. He said he expected JBG to be back training with the first team this week and that Mee was slightly behind him and probably not quite ready for Leicester next weekend due to a shin injury that hadn't reacted as well to treatment has they hoped but Dyche added that he was slightly ahead of Scott Arfield in his recovery. So you have to assume Arfield (Who it would seem is moving on) is now out for the season as well.ClaretTony wrote:Sort of came out last week after the Watford game from Sean Dyche - but Burnley Express have run with it today ahead of the press conference. I don't think it works like that. More likely Mee prognosis got worse and Scott's stayed the same

I would rather see Taylor at CB rather than LB. Ward is much better at crossing the ball then taylor is and Taylor I think has the height advantage over Ward.

Re: Mee out for the season
There seems to be an awful lot of conclusion jumping on this thread. Here's a radical thought: could it be that Mee is just injured? The odd thing is footballers DO get injured and to make assumptions that there is an ulterior motive is a little premature don't you think?

Re: Mee out for the season
We do seem to be getting a reputation for "suspending" players who are stalling on the Club's contract offers. From the Club's point of view it would seem sensible not to select a player who might not want to give everything at the tail-end of the season - risking injury that might jeopardise a lucrative move to a new club.
Having said that both Mee and Arfield don't seem to fit into that category, but Dyche has always set down rules that apply to all.
I think Arf will be off and like others I wish him well (always a Claret) but I'm clinging to the hope that the Club might be considering early surgery for Ben to make sure he's fit for next season.
I think that we are in for a period of these sorts of transfer worries until the media switch their interest to the World Cup.

Very bad news. The thought of Bardsley or Taylor at CB as backup does not fill me with confidence. Let's hope Long keeps his form up and we get no injuries.

We didn't miss Mee at all against Watford. As long as Kevin Long stays fit we'll have no problems at all.
And the worst that can happen? We finish 8th.

Re: Mee out for the season
I think he said that he didn’t know how long he would be out, giving no timescales. But there was a belief in the press room that it could be to end of season.RocketLawnChair wrote:That's not what Sean Dyche said after the Watford game. I’ve no idea on Arfield. Wasn’t it Swansea in mid Feb last time he played? It’s a calf injury but it just seems to be running on and on.

Re: Mee out for the season
I said to myself last week that we would not be seeing anymore of Mee this season. The ball is in his court if he doesn't sign a new contract, we should get shut.
I honestly don't think that there is a lot wrong with him, Dyche is flexing his muscles and telling Mee that if he doesn't sign a new contract he can **** off

I’m of the view that Mee and Burnley is a fit that just works. In the long run, although both parties may benefit financially; from a footballing perspective, I don’t think him leaving would prove to be a good move for him or us.
If he does move though, I’m pretty certain it won’t be to a newly promoted club and certainly not to a team in the championship. He’s proved that he’s well above that level now.
Re: Mee out for the season
For all his good qualities, even people wearing the most claret tinted of spectacles have to accept that when it comes to injuries you can't believe a word that comes out of Dyche's mouth!

Mee and Tarkowski should play for England as a partnership who know each other's game.
Sadly I doubt they, as a pair, ever will.
Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister were team mates that should've played for england together but didn't...
