Jon Walters
Jon Walters
I bet he cant wait to get a good pre-season in, and be 100% ready for next season...could be a very important squad player for the potential European games.

Anyone know if he had a successful run-out for the U23s today?

Re: Jon Walters
He could have been a very useful player for us this season if needed.
Depth of squad is imperative to our progression as a club.
I’m not sure what your point is?
Do you think he is or isn’t good enough for our continued progression as a club?
Are you questioning his fitness?
Are you questioning us signing him?
Or do you actually think he’s looking forwards to European football?

I think we'll get rid and I won't be too disappointed
Re: Jon Walters
I think Walters was the wrong signing but if he was fit he'd have been able to do a job for us.
Re: Jon Walters
I don't think he has any history of injuries, so I think he has been unlucky. I can't know if he would have offered anything, SD obviously thought he could. He seems to be on the road back, but I think if he has another setback, he will be let go.

Watching WHU v Stoke and Danny Drinkwater has said they Stoke lost 3 good leaders in Walters,Bardsley and Whelan at the end of last season.
Says Dyche spotted the influence of both Bardsley and Walters in the dressing room and how well Burnley have done with all players pulling in the same direction

Re: Jon Walters
I doubt he'll have been here next season, however if we get in Europe and qualify for the group stages, he may well prove useful depending how serious Mr Dyche will take the competition.
We need at least 2 players for each position, with possibly a further 2 or 3 that can play multiple positions.

Re: Jon Walters
Crouch just stolen the Stoke Premier League top scorer record from him.
Can see JW taking a starting place from any of the positions he plays in, a European/Cup run out is about the most he can hope for.

Re: Jon Walters
Speak to Stoke fans and they will give you three big reasons why they are struggling - Bardsley, Walters & Whelan. Huge Premier League experience out of the door and you can't afford that. It's a shame Walters has been injured this season but he will still be around next season and he's the sort of experienced player you need around your dressing room.DAVETHEVICAR wrote:Watching WHU v Stoke and Danny Drinkwater has said they Stoke lost 3 good leaders in Walters,Bardsley and Whelan at the end of last season.

Re: Jon Walters
A very harsh set of comments so far.
Having watched him perform for the last few years, I'd suggest we and he have been very unlucky this season. He is a model professional who epitomises what we do. He maximises what he has got and is very effective in doing so. He may not be 1st choice but he brings a bag of experience and knows how to get things done. Winning is a habit. It includes being in the habit of doing the right things.
I think he was a good signing. I think he fits in well. I think he has been unlucky. I wish him well.

Re: Jon Walters
And it's not a surprise. Over ten years since we thought we'd signed him and what a good signing he would have been, as he showed for almost a decade at Stoke.tiger76 wrote:Whelan has been excellent at Villa, could be passing his old teammates in a few weeks.

Don't think Chelsea have written Drinkwater off just yet.

Crikey... bit harsh some comments on here, the fellas not done a lot wrong & is without doubt a decent player...I for one think he will have something to prove next time out & is more than capable of delivering. I seem to remember a certain Ashley Barnes getting similar reviews not to long ago, so it can be done.

Those £15m hidden gems ?ontario claret wrote:We need to find more of those hidden gems like Brady.
You mean the one who is arguably Ireland’s most famous player
The one who has played for a few premier league clubs already ?
Right I get you.....ssshhh....let’s get looking

Re: Jon Walters
I am sure he will. He's got a fantastic attitude too as I've seen in recent U23 games playing alongside some of our younger players. You need players like this in your club.IndigoLake wrote:I think Walters was a good signing at the time and we've been unlucky with his injury record this season. He didn't appreciate some Burnley tit called Lesley having a go at him on Twitter last night, that's for sure.

Not sure what age has to do with it, surely about ability & JW has nothing to prove on that front....

I said at the time it seemed a bit strange signing Walters whilst we had Barnes and that still seems to be pretty much the case.

Re: Jon Walters
Ireland's most famous player? Then why was he languishing in the Championship, tvc15? Oh, I get it. It was his misjudgment to sign with The Bottlers. I guess that makes him unwantable. And, tim_noone, we both know that this site is all about opinions. I'm just expressing mine. Don't shoot the messenger.

Re: Jon Walters
Besides, 15 million pounds is a bargain in today's market. Isn't that that the same price we paid for Hendrick (give or take a couple of million)?

I think Brady was actually from Norwich, and Hendrick was from Derby. Probably the only time I'll get them mixed up.

Re: Jon Walters
I have a Stoke supporting mate who would love to have JW back, in fact he's hoping that if they get relegated they might buy him back. He and Bardsley were never likely to be regular starters, but they have as stated, a vast experience, and could be relied on if called into action. So it's proved although sadly JW got hit with another injury.
