Thought these went out with the break up of British railways long ago. Chelsea providing special subsidised train for tonight’s game.

Sounds like a club which keeps an eye out for its fans.

Could do with one of those round here.

I know City do it sometimes for their Champions League games with fans from Manchester-London, good work from Chelsea that.

Don't Chelsea do it for all games outside of London?

Just googled it and it looks that way. Someone on twitter was complaining that the train gets back to Euston tonight at 5am.

Without a ‘Special’ on very few of their fans
a) would travel
OR
b) get back at a very silly hour

and Chelsea is nowhere near Euston.

Some train lines can't be used at certain times of night if I remember rightly.

Just seen the Chelsea ‘special’ - it stopped at Watford Junction to pick up, while I was waiting for my train.

It is nowhere near full, but they are picking up at other places eg - Milton Keynes.
Dropping at Manny Rd as mentioned.

Spotted a few people I know on that footage. I think that was one of three games I went to on the League Liner but that one was hectic givenit was the first time it had been used.

I remember seeing the Chelsea special at Crewe after we beat them in 82/3. I waved my claret and blue scarf at them as a friendly gesture. Up until that point I thought the expression ‘foaming at the mouth’ was just a figure of speech.

We were working down in London at the time so obviously didn`t need it but quite a few mates came down on it and we all went on the QPR game.

If the train gets into Euston at 5am then they will have enough time to eat breakfast at Euston before the whole of the tube network opens up around 6am and they can go straight to work. How convenient.

Yes long routes.
Bit like my own drive home, with roads closed everywhere. 5 hours plus driving and many moles cross country.

In the 60' and 70's we regularly had special trains to away games. I can recall going on them to - Sunderland, Newcastle, Hull, Carlisle, Leeds, Huddersfield, Sheffield Utd and Wed, Grimsby, Leicester, Birmingham, Aston Villa, Everton, Liverpool, Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn and probably others that I can't recall! They were always great days out with the guards van being stocked from floor to ceiling with booze! Happy daze!

After some of their fans tried to watch the last 5 minutes from the Bee Hole and were despatched back down the steps by the police box. My mate got his hand chewed by a police dog whilst helping the Londoners find the exit

Herts. The LET had some pictures of the same Chelsea lads watching the games comfortably from the Blackburn End a few games before. We had advanced warning of their tactical manoeuvres. Good win in a bad season that. A favourite season for me, loved being up there (briefly) at the time. How time’s change eh!
