Would love him back, and not just for the nostalgia. He ticks a lot of the boxes we're looking for, work rate, good attitude, no ego. All signings have an element of risk but a lot of those risks are minimised because to a large extent we know what we're getting.

Would have thought we'd be looking around £15 million for it to happen. I can't think of many better players we'd get for that sort of money, particularly given our primarily British based player recruitment.

If he does return, it'll mean that the Boss wants him....

Seems a lot for a player who will be 29 when the season starts and has a 1 in 4 for Southampton and 1 in 5 for West Brom. Will he be better than Sam Vokes in that respect?

We only paid £18 million for Chris Wood who is younger and looks a better player.

Suppose it depends on the fee.

His pace and movement is way above any of our squad. He’s played decent the past month in a very poor side. I’d be surprised if Walters and Wells are here in July so a yes from me.

As I said on the other thread last month, short of signatures I know for a fact that this deal is done. If it doesn’t happen 1 of the 2 parties have made a massive ‘U turn’.

In relation to the Jan window, both the club and Jay tried to make it happen but they were unable to line the finances up

He'll improve just by being managed by Mr Dyche, never mind that extra 5% drive he will have playing for his home town team, and being cheered on by family and friends.

He's done very well for a poor West Brom side, and often playing from out wide.

He's an upgrade on at least half of our attacking options, and will only improve under the genius that is Sean Dyche

Not really a fan of people who leave their home club to go onto "better things" (more money)...

How is a club supposed to get better if the star and home grown players don't stick around to help?

Anyway, let him rot back in the Championship, the club is looking for better than him now.

Rodriguez is significantly better than Bobby Reid imo. Reid had something like a 3 month purple patch in the Championship and some people think he’s magic....no thanks.

Jay is also arguably an upgrade on all of our current forwards.

He's looked fine the last couple of games.Might not have the pace he had but he's still quicker than what we have and his first touch is sublime.

I've watched him quite a lot recently and he most certainly is premier league standard. Been a stand out for WBA. He would be perfect for our number 10 role for the right money.

10 goals in a rank bad WBA side is not to be sniffed at. Would certainly give us better attacking options, it's definitely a yes from me. Hopefully Walters and Wells can be moved on.

I've said it before, I'd have him back just to improve the atmosphere at the Turf. Plus it's the only song we sing at the right tempo.

Nothing to do with him being an ex-Claret but I'd have him back, he can cover a multitude of attacking options well, so gives us a lot more flexibility during games.

He didn’t want to leave at all. In fact, the club wanted to sell him before he eventually left, and he fought them on it originally. We HAD to sell him for the finance, and it was the club doing the pushing from what I know. That’s certainly the case 6 months before he left anyway.

And yes part of that is because he is an ex claret. He has a good affiliation with the club and the town and anybody who knows him understands he loves the club and the place.

As for him leaving Burnley - he left when we were nowhere near the level we are now as a club and we were not in a position to turn down £7m from Southampton. Jay is a grounded lad and he is nothing like Charlie Austin for example who has been nothing but an arse about Burnley ever since he left.

Not sure Jay will ever be the player he was before the injury when he had broke into the England squad and was on the verge of a move to Spurs for a lot of money. But I think coming back to his home club under a manager like Dyche in a set up which is so much better than when he left could improve Jay as a player (and he is already better than at least 3 of our strikers)

Given the position WBA were in when he signed in Jan, I would have thought that Jay's agent would, as a minimum, have insisted on a relegation release clause inserted into any contract
However, if the likes of WHU, Newcastle, Palace etc start to show any interest we have to be realistic and expect to be blown out of the water with wage offers
Money talks, and other clubs will be prepared to offer more (even if they really can't afford it)

Actually no they won't "always" be judged on this by the managers like Dyche who are looking at more than just this when signing a player.

Jay`s statistics are not only distorted by playing out wide a number of times but also from the number of substitute appearances he has made and also the games he has had where he is getting back to fitness from injuries. I know this can be the case for all strikers / players but the point is that a striker is not judged just on this ratio...the analysis and decisions to bring players in go far deeper than this.

2. Rumour has it that he had the chance to come back last summer, so why would it be different now?

3. For the salary and price needed to get him we could probably get a younger more promising player.

4. Apart from being an ex Burnley player and from the town why would we want him?

Not so sure previous goal ratios matter that much, what was Wood's Premier league goal ratio with Leicester and WBA? It's about how they fit in our system.
Look at the likes of Cork, middling Premier League player for Southampton and Swansea and who after less than 20 games in Dyche's system he's playing for England.
I think Jay would thrive in our system playing either as a number 10 or wide and would enhance our options.
