Why do some dog owners conscientiously pick up their dog's dirt in a little black bag then hang it up on a tree or fence?

I genuinely don't understand why they would be considerate enough to pick it up off the floor but not to then get rid of it properly.

My only guess is that it's illegal to not pick up after a your dog but isn't to just leave the bag. But I witness this out in the sticks where nobody is likely to arrest them for dog fouling so that doesn't really make sense.

Can anyone shed any light on the thought process?

I’ve done that then collected it on the way back and binned it properly.

Now that makes sense.

They think they are/might be seen so they bag it. Then they are too lazy and ignorant to carry it to the nearest bin. I would put them in the stocks for a day with dog **** being thrown at them.

There’s a large stone where piles of bags from these dirty *******s are left at the start of my walk, it is less than 100 yards from a dog poo bin.

I walk a lot (not with a dog) and see this (little black bags fill of dog s***) more and more. It's really detestable, I'm not sure what I'd do if I saw somebody doing this. However, I probably wont ever see it because I guess these people pick up the faeces if there's anybody about & then get rid of it only when they're sure they aren't seen.
Surely it's worse for the environment doing this that just leaving the mess where it stands in the first place. Still, the dog s*** goes with all the cans/plastic bottles.fast-food detritus that other lazy sods leave around.

Hats off to the owners though who train their dogs to climb trees and accurately sh!t into bags placed strategically on lower branches.

Countryside is a weird one, I think there’s a ‘stick and flick’ method- personally I pick them up and the curse myself walking for hours with it

If you mean farmland when you say proper countryside it's because some dog poo has bacteria that can cause abortion in sheep and cows. Sorry to get obsessed about the subject, but if it comes out of your dogs arse and it's not on your own land, clear it up.

I walk several dogs on behalf of other people. I have certain routes I take and on one route, I sometimes leave the bags nd pick them up on the way back around and then drop them in the poo bin or, on one of the routes I use the stick and flick because it's a remote country lane with minimal traffic other than other dog walkers but I ensure it is far off the track but nowhere near where other livestock could be affected.

The amount of times I have collected other peoples bags is unreal.....

Ive trained my dog to crap in the undergrowth...took just a few minutes in total....ive used about 3 poo bags in his lifetime..

The answer is more dog poo bins, i regularly walk my dog in areas were there are poo bins and bag it up. If there are no poo bins I don't..........

They look ridiculous walking round with their little bags of dog ****. Not to mention knowing full well how unhygienic it is, then handling their lead, phone, whatever else before washing their hands.

Just put the dog in a nappy or dont get a dog you unhygenic weirdos.

I think you’re missing that the bag is used to pick up the offending turd, it’s not a bare hands pick up and drop in the bag manoeuvre

I see this in the countryside where they'd be actually better off just leaving it. Personally if they get seen on CCTV I'd take their dog off them for a week and make them pay the kennel fees. They can then reflect. If you want a dog and particularly in a built up area you need to be prepared to take both the dog and the sh*ts for a walk. I expect it's just lazy chavs.

Not sure I'd be too keen on shaking someone's hand who was taking their dog for a walk.

The OP makes a good point imo. From reading this some dog owners clearly collect their bags a short while after, but I've been to lots of parks, walks etc where there's been a sh*t load of little black bags hanging from fences, gate posts and trees and they've obviously been there for a long time. It's disgusting and probably ultimately worse than leaving it on the ground where it will eventually decay!

I'm sure it's been discussed on here before, but whatever did happen to white dog poo...? When I was a kid there was always white dog poo on almost every pavement, and you could take the risk of kicking it - in that sometimes it was a soft centred poo and would smear all over your shoes.

I don't think many people are offended seeing poo bags left for picking up on the walkers return, the problem is that a lot don't return. I was walking up the dales yesterday and came across some bags, there is no way they were going to be picked up. The other annoyance is when we get decent snow, often the poo is just left. I think the some dog owners think it not obvious so I'll not bother. I agree though about seeing people walking with poo bags full. There's a dog walker near us, she walks around 6 dogs, she needs a large carrier bag.

If dog owners had anything about them, they'd organise mass clearups (while also walking their dogs) of their fellow dog owners' mess, and publicly shame the dirty bastards who partake in this practice.

Once they've done that they can perhaps start looking at stopping their rabid animals tearing children limb from limb, and stop letting their animals fight with other dogs/cats/sheep and the rest.

Last year March 2017 I took my dog out for a walk in the bad rain lucky for me had my long coat with hood so only my boots got wet.
When my dog spent his penny (more like £3.99 ) I double bagged it and started walking and as a previous poster had said you can look stupid mincing round with said bag in hand so I put it in one of my deep long pockets, and walked home no dog bins available but do have one round the side of the house. As we got home storm got worse so went in home. In November 2017 with the bad rain came I put on my coat that had been int the coat room since March and started of on my walk and to my surprise when I put my hand in my pocket I found the forgotten bag. ohh I did chuckle, my wife did nt see the funny side and said she thought it was her every time she had gone in the cloakroom she thought there was a strange smell ( strange woman)

Bagged dog **** fetches good money in Blackburn - it's considered to be a bit of a delicacy and also key ingredient in their curries.

Enlightening thread. I’ve been doing this all wrong, and understand now. Ive often wondered how the dog was meant to **** in the bin.

I know there are a lot of mountain bikers and track riders that post on here and you have probably had the same experiences I've had with hidden dog s**t especially in Autumn when it lurks beneath the leaves if you don't have a front mudguard it's a face load of disgusting and dangerous cr*p. There are good dog owners but unfortunately there are too many bad ones.

It is an odd thing to do given that dog mess is bio degradable whilst plastic bags are not. It is better to leave the dog mess on the floor than do that (and before anyone asks I do pick up after mine).
There is another little part to this though. If I am walking somewhere I know and I am conscious of there being no dog bins en route (and assuming I'm not on a circular walk and have to return the way I came) I will occasionally leave the bag where I can find it and pick it up on my return. I would think I am not the only one who does this so the problem may not be as bad as it first appears. It's better than carrying a bag of dog do around for an hour or two.

I have 2 local poo bins near me .... the path leading up to them is covered in shite and the grass surrounding them are covered in shite so more poo bins will make no difference at all I'm afraid.
