Does anyone have a recommendation or contact details for a good, reliable car hire company in Cyprus?

Pick up from Larnaca Airport or maybe have the car delivered to Nissi Beach area. Will probably need it for around a week or maybe a few days more.

Try Avis. I have booked Avis for 2 weeks in Cyprus in July. You might pay a bit more than others but you get a really good car. In my opinion.

Use a local one who won't sting you with CDW charges etc

Their "initial" rental might be higher than the big boys but will be cheaper or the same by the time you've added on extras

Check google maps for local ones and read their reviews

Try economy car rentals
Used them few times in Crete and always been spot on

I used a really good one. Decent car, delivered and collected at hotel, decent price and local. I am back home Monday night and will look up the details, if it helps. It was in Paphos.

Don't be worried about 'going local'.

I can't remember who I used as it was 6 years ago but I was collected at Larnaca after a phone call and taken to their 'Depot', a farm like set up in the countryside!

I got a brand new car with delivery mileage and had no problems, after dropping off again they took me to departures.

Google around.

Never been to Cyprus. We like areas that are hilly as we enjoy walking and would probably like an area that has more apartments than hotels

Plenty of really good walking to be had in the Troodos area and there are quite a few places outside the main tourist resorts that would suit your needs.

Just be aware you can't (or couldn't) cross into Northern Cyprus in a hire car. They all have Red plates and Insurance only covers you in the South.

You can buy insurance at the border. It would be against car hire t&c though
