The standard of hygiene has to be abysmal to score 3. Honestly. To score 1 and 2 they must of found something extremely dodgy.

I have had the odd Foo Yung & Curry from that Po Sang.
The last time was about 5 years ago though.
No complaints...
Thought it was highly rated.
A mate up that way still uses it I think.

Disgusting dumps - it's 2018 and how difficult is it to keep a small food outlet clean?

I went into the chippy on Brownhill Ave one night last year. The bloke in front of me ordered and the lady serving it was wiping her dripping nose (sometimes not and it dripped). I made my excuses and left.

Ooops.
One of them I frequent more regularly than I should, and that's a worry.
New takeaway required methinks.

It all adds to the flavour?

It always looks clean when I've been in....though the lady looks poorly to me. I think when her sons served food things were better.tbh.

Ate at 3 of those places - all been good food and never had any problems.
The odd thing is that 2 of those places definitely look cleaner than some other places I gotten food from that have better ratings.

Doesn't mean they're not necessarily cleaner... but it probably means that the food is kept in worse conditions!
Dirty surfaces or rank food covered in rat ****, which would you rather?

They're not all based on hygiene. Lass who owns a butty shop I know lost 3 stars because her sink was in the wrong place! She stays on for hours after she closes cleaning up doing books etc. After the inspection she moved the sink and gained 5 stars.

What rating has Continentals got these days? It was 1 star last time I saw.

It's a load of crap that rating system. New taste is bob on.
I used to be involved with a community club that got 5 star ratings, it only sold a few basic things but the kitchen was used by lots of people so not the cleanest. They had to book appointments to view the premises as they weren't always open so just cleaned accordingly.

Me and my mates and family order from Tara regularly, I had one last night. I've always been really happy with it and recommend them regularly.
I'm not too worried about these ratings, if it was bad or dangerous they'd be getting shut down. I prefer good curry to complete paperwork any day.

It's been open months now, business had dried up some what, I've tried midweeek offers, and even free delivery, this is a case of last chance saloon, oh and i have 6 stars!
Back to a point made above, a hygiene rating is out of date as soon as the inspector leaves the premises.
Any establishment can be squeeky clean for 1 day.
But to get a 1, something is sevearly wrong hygiene wise, on recent TV shows, 1 ratings were given for things like, vermin droppings found in the premises, cooked and uncooked meat being stored together, bacteria swabs showing lack of clenliness on cooking aparatus and preparation areas, built up over a sustained period of time, or staff not having basic knowledge of food hygiene.
We really don't know what we are putting in our mouths half the time, and it would be quite scary to know. I'm not sure if I prefer not to know the details of how and where my food is prepared.

Po Sang changed hands around 2 years ago and the standards have slipped in food quality. Also a toddler running around behind the counter when I went in recently. It was great when Yan had it.
Tara has always been good food and you can actually see them cooking when you go in and it all looks above board, so I’m a bit surprised by that one.
No experience of any of the others.

I'll copy the memo to Shakespeare, Bacon and the others that somebody on a noticeboard who uses funny faces to express themselves has taken umbrage at their writing.

Moral of the story is avoid certain types of establishment
Hygiene ratings not all based on hygiene, it's about control of practices as well. Can you see bacteria growing inside a chicken breast? The answer is no, hence remarks about a place 'looking' clean aren't as valid as many think. A lot of the oriental places in particular struggle with English language anyway so they are at a disadvantage from square one when it comes to the paperwork side of it.

I've worked in some places ( I install safety flooring) where hygene and health is firmly on the back burner!
Places that were as bad as it gets, vile and manky, including the kitchens in the Blackburn end.

Not eaten from PoSang for some time, as the last meal I had was not so good.
However, I am a regular visitor to Tara in The 'Grove and have been for many years. No
complaints from me, I have to say.

As people are saying, the ratings don't really mean much.
La Grillade in Leeds got shut down by the council for refusing to cook their steak tartare until it was no longer pink. Dealing with jobsworth plebs.

Not true. The restaurateur closed it himself and mainly blamed his landlord. He mentioned the steak tartare but....
"Leeds City Council has said it has “no problem” with the sale of steak tartare but simply advised Mr Martin-Laval to have safe food handling controls in place so to not put customers at risk."

The place has been around 15 years plus and still doesn't know how to comply with hygiene rules. With idiots like you still going despite their poor hygiene they have no incentive to improve.
Do yourself a favour, go Shagor, Asha, Premier or Agra. All 5 star ratings and far superior curries. Why anyone would go to a place like that mystifies me. Shimla Spice was or is a 2 as well.

A real shame to see Po Sang has gone down the tubes since it was sold.
I haven't had a chippy from there since before it was, and it was always proper well good.

Food hygiene at Shimla is rated as 'fair' which means "The premises are in the top 50 per cent of premises and standards are being maintained or improved", and they have "Satisfactory record of compliance. Access to and use of technical advice either in-house or from trade associations. May have satisfactory documented food safety management system."

A number of the 1s and 2s will be failure to document things, have procedures, etc. rather than an actual failing in hygiene. You see it at new places quite often.
If it stays at 1 though then that's generally an indicator that they can't be bothered with trying to comply which is obviously more concerning.

Count yourselves lucky. My local Indian takeaway got a zero rating last year.
