Gerrard In At Ibrox
(Sky/BBC)
Both saying he'll be announced as Rangers boss at three o'clock.
Three year deal. Good luck, pal. Think you'll need it.

Genuinely think this is a awful appointment, SG will fail, Gers are skint and years behind Celtic, I personally think SG has taken bad advice on this job and should have maybe cut his teeth in the championship with no pressure, the union flag wavers will no doubt turn against him pretty soon

didn't see this coming

Totally agree. Not sure why either side would be interested in this other than publicity.lifelongclaret wrote:Genuinely think this is a awful appointment, SG will fail, Gers are skint and years behind Celtic, I personally think SG has taken bad advice on this job and should have maybe cut his teeth in the championship with no pressure, the union flag wavers will no doubt turn against him pretty soon

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
I suspect Stevie could be a decent manager but I think this is a bad choice by him. Its a poisoned chalice of a job, at a club in disarray with a bunch of entitled fans and no money. I'd be surprised if he lasts till Christmas.
I wonder if he spoke to Joey Barton before taking it on?

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Don't get this one at all. He's on a hiding to nothing. A bad start coupled with a heavy defeat by a Celtic team that are light years ahead of them could see the fans turn against him and him being out on his arse by Christmas. Maybe he should have had a word with John Barnes about starting a managerial career in such a high pressure environment.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
It could be a great appointment for both parties.
Gerrard has a lot of contacts in the game and could take all Liverpool's best young talent up there on loans.
Needs a good experienced no2 and there's talk of Souness doing it.

Think he'll do really well at a big club in a poor league. Personally think it's a good move at the right time.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
yes, this one is a guaranteed failure.
Good player, but totally inexperienced as a manager, and although scottish football is dire beyond belief, the maniacs that follow this farce up there with the so called "big firm" matches will ruin any small chance he may have had to improve things.
gerrard needed to cut his managerial teeth somewhere like east fife if he is intent on going to scotland.
Doomed venture from day one.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Never really seen Gerrard as a managerial type if I'm honest. Good motivator and was a fantastic player, but not sure he has the tactical awareness, intelligence or personality to suit being a manager. Thought he would be better suited as a number 2 somewhere.

He’ll get job after job after job for years because of the player he was.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
As someone said if he can get an experienced number 2 in there to keep him right his reputation will certainly attract a better class of player. A heavy defeat to Celtic though and the locals will be jumping all over him to go.
Might be a good club for us to send some of our youngsters on loan.

McAllister as number 2 is sensible but if they lose the next 2 Old Firms I can't see them being there at the turn of the year.
Edit.
He just said, "if you take the scoreline out of it I thought it was a good performance by the Rangers playes" talking about last week's 5 - 0 defeat. Oh dear!

Pardew was seen hanging around, apparently.
Allegedly. Honest.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Not that dissimilar to Martin Buchan becoming our manager. He even had an experienced assistant in Tommy Cavenagh. I hope it works as well as it did for us

Let's face it. They are almost on a par with the women's premier league.

I bet sol Campbell is well ****** off, strange choice from Stevie G ,I think maybe he thinks he's better than he is.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
There's no pressure at all in Scotland, compared with the Championship.
Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
I don't think Sol Campbell has coached a team at all, Gerrard has. Campbell can moan all he wants about lack of opportunities but until he pulls his finger out and takes the required steps he'll never be given an opportunity. All the moaning makes him look an absolute idiot, no wonder he can't get given an opportunity, his skin colour has nothing to do with it, he's just an inexperienced arrogant cock end. Seriously the way Campbell talks about himself makes me throw up, cringe.Shore claret wrote:I bet sol Campbell is well ****** off, strange choice from Stevie G ,I think maybe he thinks he's better than he is.
As for Gerrard thinking he's better than he is, I don't think he has any idea how good he is at being a manager until he actually gives it a go so I'm not sure how you can pass judgement. If pouncing on your first big opportunity is ''thinking you're better than you are'' then god help us all.
Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
I'd be stunned if he lasts anywhere near the end of his deal.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Almost as ludicrous as Fleetwood appointing joey Barton, eh?
Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Expectation, 50,000 fans, a different country and different league, only having one team
you are expected to beat... yes I can see the similarities with Fleetwood and Barton oh yes they are both scousers but I bet the Fleetwood players will understand what Barton is saying.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Barton's 'record' hardly warrants any managerial placing. Interesting to see how he deals with discipline issues!Blackrod wrote:Expectation, 50,000 fans, a different country and different league, only having one team

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Ive more hope for Barton than Gerrard.
Bartons only downfall would be perhaps players of other clubs not willing to do business (loans) with them and his overall reputation from 10 years ago. Im more than sure he’ll not want youngster making his silly mistakes and theowing away promising careers.
Gerrard will have loads of contacts and people wanting to help him out. But perphaps his pampered career could be his downfall.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Turned down a league one club a couple of years ago because he wasn't ready to manage.
Went and worked his way up through coaching at Liverpool and became the under 19's manager.
Got offered a decent job in a league equivalent to league one standard and accepted this time.
People writing him off for no reason.
Pretty much goes somthing like that. I completely agree with the poster above who said they had never envisaged him as a manager, I didn't either. That doesn't mean he's destined to fail. I have no idea about youth football so I don't know how good a manager he is, but I suspect that goes for most posters above.

Re: Gerrard In At Ibrox
Being a good footballer does not necessarily make a good manager. Many have tried and only a few have succeeded. Gerrard had as much chance of succeeding as a player from lower league club.

Not really, Cirrus.
Because the player from the lower league club won't have the contacts
Gerrard has. That's the difference. He'll be bringing lots of promising players in.

Whilst some have their own thoughts on SG, how about Brendan Rodgers stop living the cosy life up there and test himself again in the EPL: he's capable.
