Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
Israel have a right to protect its borders.
Quote..
Ahead of the expected riots amid US Embassy opening in Jerusalem and Nakba Day events, Air Force drops leaflets in Gaza warning strip's residents to keep away from border fence;
One of leaflets read, "To the protestors, you are taking part in violent protests that are putting your life in danger. Hamas is using you to conceal its failures and is endangering you and your family members. The IDF is prepared for any scenario and will act against any attempt to target the security fence or to threaten the forces or Israel's citizens. Hamas is using you. Don't be its puppets. Stay away from the fence and beware terror operators and violent rioters! Take care of yourselves and work to build your future!"
Another leaflet stated, "Hamas said it was going to improve the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. Has that been done? Hamas said it was going to built new medical and educational centers. Has that been done? Hamas said it would take care of civil affairs. Has that been done? Hamas said that participating in protests would improve your lives. Do you think that will happen?"
According to estimates, thousands of them will try to break through the security fence, which has not been crossed so far despite many attempts since the start of the "March of Return" campaign about a month and a half ago. Meanwhile, Arab newspaper Al-Akhbar reported Monday that Egypt had offered to open the Rafah Crossing regularly if Hamas stopped the "return protests." The Egyptians added that if the marches are halted, it would allow the transfer of goods through the crossing and take care of the strip's urgent needs, like electricity.
In light of Hamas' preparations for the US Embassy opening in Jerusalem and the Nakba Day events, Israeli officials believe the an escalation to war on the Gaza border is very likely. According to Israeli sources, Hamas is interested in creating a crisis, so that the international community would rescue the organization from its governmental and financial distress. According to estimates, Hamas won't hesitate to send children, women and elderly people to the fence to undermine the State of Israel's legitimacy to defend itself.

Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
It just takes a daft decision by someone for these embers to burst into life.
Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem is totally daft, as it gives Nethanyu an excuse to do this, and it gives Hamas an excuse to mobilise its supporters.

Because its the IDF
And also, because if the protesters got their hands on them, they'd get ripped to pieces.

Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
Jeez talk about naive comments on here. It's as naive as believing communism is good for Britain.
Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
UK prime minister Theresa May’s spokesperson said: “We are concerned by the reports of violence and loss of life in Gaza. We urge calm and restraint to avoid actions destructive to peace efforts. The UK remains firmly committed to a two-state solution with Jerusalem as a shared capital.”Damo wrote:Has that actually happened? Not seen it reported anywhere other than some far left, friends of Hamas, Corbyn types who are tweeting from leafy London suburbs
And Emily Thornberry MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to the killing of Palestinians in Gaza today, said:
We condemn unreservedly the Israeli government for their brutal, lethal and utterly unjustified actions on the Gaza border, and our thoughts are with all those Palestinians in Gaza whose loved ones have been killed or injured as a result.
These actions are made all the worse because they come not as the result of a disproportionate over-reaction to one day’s protests, but as the culmination of six weeks of an apparently systemic and deliberate policy of killing and maiming unarmed protestors and bystanders who pose no threat to the forces at the Gaza border, many of them shot in the back, many of them shot hundreds of metres from the border, and many of them children.

How many Israeli's were killed? I can't seem to find the number anywhere??. Surely for them to open fire on Palestinian's they must have been under immediate threat to their lives. I'm mystified
Imagine if the Syrian government had behaved in this way, American jets would be having weapons being strapped to them as we speak in preparation for a response to the aggressors. One rule for Israel and another for the rest of the middle east. And there in lies the problem.

Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
I used to work with a young Jewish guy who's grandparents survived the holocaust fleeing from France down into Switzerland then England over to the states then back to France. He actually emigrated to Israel and joined the Israeli air force. It is ingrained in the Jewish psycy to defend themselves and their lands (not that how they got Palestine was correct ). As he said we can only ever lose one war and we are wiped off the face of the earth. I think that is why they will do anything to anyone who threatens them. Doesn't make it right but I get it. It is the only true democracy in the area so that speaks volumes.

Re: 41 Palestinians Killed in Gaza
Well it is, but speaking from a purely military/urban rioters point of view, the Israelis have much more experience on how to deal with this than anybody else on the planet.Picking off unarmed protesters with sniper rifles is pure cowardice.
They don't **** around, and though I personally disagree with what they are doing, they are doing what a hell of a lot of people want them to do.
And like everything else, if it was as simple as Israel v Palestine it would have been sorted out a long time ago.

And to top it all off, they (Palestinian's) are essentially refugees. Murdering refugees eh?
Folk go mental on here when Bloody Sunday is mentioned, yet for some it's all the Palestinian's own fault is this.
Good old fashioned racism, that's what it is.

They are a lone people surrounded by religious fanatic enemies who want to wipe their entire race off the face of the earth.
If they wanted to they could kill 1000s a day without breaking a sweat. If hamas had that capability, there would be no Jews left in that part of the world, period.

I'm trying to disagree with you there CM but I can't. While Hamas and Nethanayu have the power, there is no prospect of peace.
The reason that both sides are so entrenched is that the fanatics on both sides want something that can't happen and as its been so long without peace, the fanatics have the support.

60th anniversary of the bombing of the King David Hotel by the Irgun acting under the umbrella of the overall Zionist force, the Haganah. The attack killed 92 people, most of them civilians, some 17 of whom were Jewish.
It was organised by Irgun leader, Menachem Begin, who went on to be twice prime minister of Israel. His second period of office saw Israel's "limited" 1982 invasion of southern Lebanon, which quickly become an assault on the whole country and claimed many thousands of lives.
There was no Hizbullah in 1946 or in 1948 when 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes to make way for the state of Israel. There was no Hizbullah in 1982; the organisation emerged after the Israeli invasion, after the massacres at Sabra and Shatilla refugee camps. It established a base in Lebanese society and its prestige grew enormously when it forced the Israelis out of most of southern Lebanon in 2000. I say most because Israel continued to occupy the Shebaa Farms, not that you would know that from western news reports, every single one of which talks of Israel withdrawing "completely" from Lebanon six years ago.

Ahem, at the same time Israel was invaded by Eygpt, Jordan, Syria, Lebannon and contingent from Iraq, Saudi and probably somewhere else.
Trying to score points in this one is a waste of time. No good guys, only bad guys and plenty wrong on all sides.
Best thing I remember about 1948 is something about a clash in the air between Eygpt, Israel and the RAF, with all of them flying Spitfires so nobody have a clue who was who.

How can you invade somewhere that doesn't/shouldn't exist?
There was a 'coalition' to get Saddam out of Kuwait, maybe that's what the neighbouring states were doing to try and help the Palestinians.
