Taking food & drink in

On Sunday, my bag was searched and I was told I couldn't take a can of pop into the ground. Not being thirsty at that moment it went in the bin. But I didn't buy food or drink inside the ground so it all seemed a bit petty. Is that normal practice?

Cans could be used as weapons/missiles ( that s their reason anyway)
You can take bottles in if you remove the lid.
( take a spare in your pocket, and screw it on at the other side of the turnstile )

Is it not more to do with it being able to be used as a projectile, rather than reducing the refreshments take?

They always allow me to keep my shoes/boots on, despite being able to throw them at any time I wish. :D

Things may have been quite different if Joey was struck by a full can of pop instead of a half used plastic bottle of pop - that's the reason for it.

It's illegal to have a drinks can in a football ground. It's not a ground regulation, it's the law. I think it isn't because of throwing potential, it's because of tearing it in half and using like a knife potential. I think glass bottles are barred, for the same reason. Plastic bottles aren't a problem.

You can't take cans in but some clubs will allow you to take in plastic bottles. I often have a need to take water in with me and Burnley, I can confirm, have no problem with it. Watford and Arsenal recently have been particularly helpful.

Plastic bottles without tops aren't a problem. I've thought about buying a load of plastic tops and re-selling them to people inside the ground.

Some lads in front of my old seat used to come in with sausage, chips and gravy every game.

I had to make do on Sunday with a pie wrapped in tinfoil my dad had done for me. Got patted down on the way in too, but the steward loved it that I had a pie in my pocket.

Sandwiches from any Spar shop are a big no, no. The equivalent of being hit by the corner of a paving slab.

Not a new thing- we had coke cans taken from us a children at Wembley in 1994.

I often go into the Cricketfield with chips and gravy from the Park View

Thanks everyone. Makes a lot of sense. Wish the steward had explained.

Imagine how many irate threads there would be on here if the stewards had to explain commonsense to everyone and delay entry to the ground.

“Sorry, you can’t take drinks in” could have been
“Sorry, tins aren’t allowed to prevent them being thrown”.

Not sure there would have been much delay.

seems odd why they let people take metal flasks on full of tea if the concern is throwing them, far heavier than a can.

bringing in plastic bottled water's never been a problem at Turf Moor -
they do seem to have a lot of it in abundance...sprinklers are on every half-time - even when raining! :)

Tartan rugs could also be used to strangle someone.

The Bob Lord Stand should be on police lockdown.

I hope nobody notices the tin tray they serve the pies in.... ;)

Seems odd that they'd make you remove the lid when you could just buy one with the lid on once you were in the ground.

Sorry sir but it is against the law to bring cans into the stadium also ground regulations forbid it. This is because the can could be used as a missile or cut in half to make two formidable weapons and even the ring tops could be used as a knuckle duster. So if you don't mind sir could you please place it in the bin where it will be disposed of.

You can’t buy one with a lid on inside the ground. I’m sure some are inadvertently but they shouldn’t be.

Once sat in the Bob Lord and two old fellas were sat in front. One had a small knife for his apple, and another was happily swigging from a hip flask.
Guess it depends if they like the look of you or not

Every single time I've bought a bottled drink inside Turf Moor, the cap has been left on.

Does that include alcohol? I’ve never been given a bottle of lager with a top on.
