Some Arsenal fans in the pub yesterday thought they were getting Arteta with Xavi Alonso as sidekick... they were getting quite animated.. :o

They just wanted somebody who's name was similar to their stadium, after getting someone who's was similar to their team name last time.

Driving home from work this evening there was a chat show on 5Live with Mark Chapman, Ian Wright, Chris Sutton and journalist Rory Smith.

Ian Wright was less than impressed and Chris Sutton was bringing his TalkSport approach to everything he does by eulogising how outrageous the appointment is, demonstrates the hierarchy at the Emirates haven’t a clue what they’re doing etc. whilst Wrighty wailed, gnashed his teeth and completely agreed with him.

Rory Smith attempted to bring some sense to the situation by pointing out for a start that Arteta is hardly an Arsenal legend (something I’ve been saying) and that this guy does have a half decent CV.

I had arrived home and needed to kiss my kids goodnight so didn’t wait for the ensuing phone-in but I suspect the majority of contributors will be more likely to agree with Wrighty than Rory Smith.

Looks like he’s on a sticky wicket before the fixtures have even been announced!!!!

How can Sutton, or anyone else, get so vitriolic by this appointment. He did brilliantly well at Sevilla, three consecutive Europa League titles is not be sniffed at, yes he had money to burn at PSG but he’s won the league and cup, as far as I can see, he has maximum success at the clubs he’s been at after taking a year to settle.
I’d certainly be happier with that than untested Arteta !
They’ve also wasted little time in doing it.

I hope the Arsenal Board were Unaited in their decision.

I wonder if it because they have been reduced, by stress to biting their nails, that's made Emery Board choice.

Is it a cost cutting appointment to shorten the stadium name the the Emery?

Etxegoien - is that the Spanish pronunciation of the half time rallying cry of Letsgetgoing?

Just what they need. An experienced manager in the Europa league which is the level they are at.

Was superb at Sevilla, not gonna matter who they get if Cronke only gives him 50 million to spend though

How long before there aren't any English managers in the Premier League. Currently set to have 5/6 next year.
Dyche
Woy
Eddie Howe
Chris Hughton
Warnock
Bruce (Maybe)

You want to bet against it CT, then there are very good odds at the bookies.

It will pay for the european tour if they appoint someone else! :-)

It'll be their nickname next. When the time comes, get your money on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

This appointment, if it happens, tells me one thing. That Sean will never, ever get a "big six" job. Neither will Eddie or anyone other English manager. How could they have interviewed Arteta who has never managed and ignored Sean?

Because Arteta was a graceful, skilled footballer who captained Arsenal and has since proven a great assistant to the best manager in world football.

Sadly, it would take an unbelievable season from an English manager to be considered for a "top six side". Maybe if Eddie Howe got Bournemouth into the Champions League he would be considered for Tottenham. Sean probably wouldn't be considered even if he took Burnley into champions league just due to his style of play. Fine by me!

Paul Clement is considered a great assistant.

And a useless manager!

Let's not forget Brian Kidd, also considered to be a great assistant and outside of Burnley a useless manager

I am almost certain that if he does a half reasonable job (wins a cup), Steven Gerrard will end up next Liverpool manager after Klopp.

To be fair, from Arsenal's point of view, this guy has won the Europa League 3 times, Sean has just qualified for the qualifiers.

After 22 years of the same manager, I reckon they'll have at least 20 in the next 22 years.

They'll be crying for Wenger back within a few months

I would love them to have a horrible start. Bottom 3 after 10 games or something. I’d just love to listen to the arsenal fans moan some more. Probably blame the board next.

Everton are another team i’d Love to see fail in the new season. No manager is good enough for the Everton fans. In the bottom 3 after 10 games, they’ll be begging for big Sam back!

Gazidis said one of the main 3 criteria's when searching for a replacement for Wenger was a manager to play an attractive style of play which pretty much ruled out Allardyce, Pulis and Dyche.

Probably not with how useless Wenger has been for a long time.
