Most Icelandic blokes have their fathers first name as their last name with SON added to the end of it.

If our Johann had a son his last name would be Johnasson

One appeared in 33 games for his club this season and scored 6 goals and the other appeared in 38 games for his club and scored 2 goals.

I’d be surprised if Icelands manager went out of his way to wind you up. It is a world cup squad. He must be near fitness.

The headline is surely that they have picked a player who hasn't played due to injury for two months and as a result is a bit of a surprise selection.

No, not to the same degree as Icelandic. We have family names that have become established as that, but Icelanders have full on patronymic naming conventions.

Watched a programme on Vikings the other night and they said that the first men on Iceland were all Scandinavian and the women were all Scottish. The slaves were all British which probably also explains for the women.
