No, mine’s the HS 2300 with about 135. Apparently, all the HSRs started out as HSs but added a factory supplied kit. IIRC, the kit included the arches, wheels, exhaust and twin twin-choke dellortos. Like the Quattro, it’s a car I’ve always wanted but, until now, couldn’t really afford. It shows how far cars have come since 1978 when it used to be a fast hatchback; my wife’s dog carrier (320D Touring) which has 295,000 miles can leave it for dead round the back lanes. It has better acceleration, brakes, handling and even has air con. The Chevette has no toys at all. Progress isn’t always bad!

Wow, you really are a VAG man! I like your thinking with the R, I’m likely going to replace the 320D with one next year. It’ll be an Estate and will likely get breathed on to give it a bit more oomph.

Sure am dude. I grew up with parents having an Audi 80 and a beetle which is still there, and there's been plenty of other dubs since. The Leon is the first time I've delved away from Deutsch but it's a decent runaround (though not particularly exciting). Looks like you know your stuff, but I think the choice between the golf R and S3/S4 comes down to either wanting a more sporty ride, or a more refined one. There's also the Leon Cupra of course which has got good ratings in this generation

I must say, aside the M3, I would have my Lancia back in a heartbeat. Sure, it broke down almost all of the time but when it was motoring it had something no other car I've driven has come close to.
