Yes. Get your application in. Looking at it I think there's about a 15 year waiting list.whiffa wrote:Happy Birthday. Time to move to the Bob Lord.

Re: 50!
I got in the Bob Lord before my 50th and ignore all those tartan blanket jibes.
We have a great time and even sing and see more faces from the Bob Lord crew at away games than other parts of the ground.
Get your application in.
Many happy returns.

Re: 50!
Congratulations on your Half Ton. Keep yourself in shape and you’ll most likely enjoy your middle age. 50 is not old in the same way it was when you were born.
Re: 50!
50 - expect a letter from Saga.
60 - you get invited for a bowel cancer test - possibly self sampling your turds or a colonoscopy. This then occurs every two years from now on.
64, nearly 65 - you get invited to apply for heating allowance - actually as you are a mere youth of 50 this will occur a year or more later.
65 - you get invited to have an ultra scan to check if you suffer for an 'Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm'. Mine is three days before my birthday.
66 onwards - if you get there - you can apply for a bus pass and your state pension.
Isn't growing old great!

Re: 50!
I'm over 50 and it's definitely a better time than my '40s. Kids grown up and generally less pressure because of that, both financially and otherwise. Realisation that work, or at least the careerist politics that goes with it, is largely b******s so not caring about it any more. Understanding more about what's important in life and making sure I spend more time enjoying myself as a result. Maybe increased awareness of mortality brings this on but I find I am much happier generally than I was when in "young middle age". I suppose the Clarets form nowadays helps too !!

Re: 50!
I think age is relative.
When you're in your teens, you think 21 is old.
When you're 30 you think your 40s is old.
When you reach your 40s, you think you're getting on but people in their 50s scoff
When you hit 50s, you're still pretty young, but people in their 30s think, "Crikey, that's old".
When you're in your 80s-90s, 50 is a spring chicken.

Well, it is a measurement of the passage of time, and time is relative.FactualFrank wrote:I think age is relative.

Re: 50!
Relative to how old the person is. The older you get, the younger you think somebody else is 10 years your junior, but when you were that age, you didn't think it was young. That's why it's very wise to take onboard what Spades posted. As we'll be thinking the same thing at that age - well, if I make it, which would be a bonus.Imploding Turtle wrote:Well, it is a measurement of the passage of time, and time is relative.

Re: 50!
Tonight I sat down watching the live music at 'Live at the Farm' . I got talking to a friend and along comes an older chap, who knew my pal well. Introduced. Turns out he is 75 and used to work for BT (and predecessors) like me. He left early on voluntary redundancy - like me. He played guitar in local groups. Then he was asked to join his mates in Salusbury's best known 60's pop group... Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch!
He now 'play's' Dozy. They tour Europe. Treated well and good hotels. The only original is Beaky.
So, if he can do that at 75, 50 is hardly the beginning!
