World Cup Wallchart

Morning,

It’s that time again where the search begins for a wallchart of decent quality - to include tables etc. Does anyone know when any of the papers are giving one away? I’m guessing next weekend?

All for my little lad of course.......ahem.

i think the heavyweight Sunday papers do the best ones - Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, the Observer.

- the tournament kicks off on 14/6 so next weekend [2/3] might be a bit early.

I would say probably 9/10 June most likely.

** The Guardian, The Times, Daily Telegraph also good bets, harder to predict when they will dish them out, though sometimes advertised on TV.

You have to keep filling it in even when Peru knock us out in the Round of 16.. :(

Not always a good idea for a child to have a wall-chart in bedroom. Reason being is that if you send them to bed early they will get bored and develop obsessive compulsive tendencies like counting every 'e' and every 'l' on it, or seeing how many triangles they can count. It happened to me.

Bought a top one from a newsagents for Italia 90. Massive size, stadium info, stickers with country emblems to put on as the teams progressed. Happiest time of my life.
If anyone sees something similar please let me know.

Made me think of league ladders, remember those from Shoot magazine? Just trying now to explain to teenage son...

They were great - until a team jumped from 18th place to 9th and you had to remove & move them down

The footy magazine When Saturday Comes (WSC) has one in it's latest edition. It's jovial but has a list of games/venues etc and shows the routing through the competition knockout stages. There's also a supplement in the mag going through all the teams with (again somewhat jokingly) a few paragraphs about expectations, interesting players etc compiled by a contributor in each country.
If you can track a copy down in a newsagents you can have a little peruse to see if it's what you want before (if needs be) buying.
WSC is an excellent magazine in any case.

Is anybody who's retired, self-employed, unemployed, or self-unemployed plan on watching all 64 games?

I wouldn't have thought it possible to watch all 64 games given the final round of fixtures in each group will be played at the same time. I reckon the maximum you can watch live will be 56 games.

Well, the ones at the same time you can channel-hop between the two, unless it involves England.

Certainly not this fully retired person. I take SkySports and BT Sports and watch plenty of sport but doubt I'll watch even 16/64 WC games.
There are a fair few sporting alternatives: at least 4 (non-overlapping SH v NH) international rugby games to watch on Saturdays 16th & 23rd; England v Oz cricket ODIs & T20s in 2nd half of June then Eng v India in July + (in the actual outdoors) a few race days & county cricket games.
I'll start off watching any England WC games but reserve the right to switch off if my blood-pressure is affected by continual duff passing.
Group D I'll try and catch- Argentina/Iceland/Croatia/Nigeria looks an interesting mix.

I work from home so will watch as many as I can. There is one day which has 4 live games on the bounce so that will be a definite "all day sesh".

Just started to make notes on moving my office downstairs:

1) Move laptop downstairs
2) .......

Nope, that appears to be it :D

There was a belter in the Daily Mail yesterday and I saved having to bring that paper home by buying it and handing it straight to a lady who was about to buy one but didn’t want the wallchart. It’s now hanging proudly on my little lad’s bedroom wall ready to be filled out from Thursday.
