For me, certainly within the last 13-14 years I hated playing against Wolves, always thought they would beat us each time. Same with Reading until recently. Preston of course is another that stands out.

In Division 4 Wolves and for a while Peterborough. More recently Swansea and Cardiff now we have won at WBA.

Stockport in the nineties just knew we wouldn't get a result,or a refereeing decision in our favour,no matter how many fouls the dirty **** committed,Kevin Francis was the worst culprit.

When we were in the fourth it was Rochdale as it made you realise just how far we had plummeted. Consistently thereafter Wolves.

Quite a few of you have mentioned Peterborough in our Div4 days. Back then, I near as damn hated playing everyone, they all gave us a spanking.

Leeds till we battered them 5...1 and Arsenal I've seen us beat them once in the league 1...0 between 69/71 but it could have been a dream.

Portsmouth for some reason.

Always hated playing Rotherham whilst Campbell Rice was there - and any team Helgurson played for (Watford, Pompey etc) - and hated playing against David Nugent.

Villa away and about the only time we beat them away was in 1962 and look at the results after that. No coincidence that they had been relegated in 1959 before we won the League in 1960. Before 1962 P12 W1 D2 L9 at Villa Park.

Reading for me without a doubt. Remember standing on the Tilehirst end when we got beat 5-1 after being 1-0 up at half time. Boy did I get some stick from my mates over that game. Glad we seem to beat them a bit now though.

Oxford was another one as well, 5-0. Moody came on for them in that game, I said to my mate "he won't score, he's a cart house " . Came on and got a hat trick and one of them was a screamer.

Hereford at Edgar Street we used to get some real pastings and that was in the years after 6-0 home tubbing.

Gillingham and Barnsley were generally the destination of many a nightmare. We were once actually that bad at Gillingham we were brilliant.

Fo me, Thinking through this thread has just reinforced the achievements of the last 10 odd years. We’ve sorted all the clubs out above and I don’t really care who bowls up, apart from Arsenal in injury time

How do think I felt, I went to school in Rochdale when they used to beat us.
Personally Preston and Grimsby, always seemed to come away from Grimsby with nothing but disappointment.

We lost to Gillingham loads. If we played them now I'd still expect to get beat, with Carl Asaba scoring.

Though, oddly enough, in(I think) Stan’s last season we beat them 3 times; twice in the League, and in the FA Cup at home. I only really remember this because for one it didn’t happen much, and secondly my Brother in Law is a Gills ST Holder, and I have him dog’s abuse for it.

We were never really any good in the capital in the 70s 80s or 90s apart from Spurs for some unknown reason. Leeds were another one. Never seems to get a result against Man United until 2009. Have always dreaded playing Wolves the coming season will be no different. In the lower leagues Stoke, Blackpool well you could have a fair sized list from the 4th Division.

can't say I was over enamoured with any of the opponents during the Division 3 and 4 years ... I reckon I saw all but five or six of the home games between 1980 and 2000 but let's be honest deep down I must still have enjoyed it because it isn't actually compulsory to keep going

... Wolves always gave me a feeling of dread .. the defeats were seemingly inevitable although I was at the Molineux win in 1986

Was always Wolves in my earlier days because we never seemed to be able to beat them.

Another vote too for the likes of Peterborough and Scunthorpe in our times further down. I've only seen us win once at Scunthorpe and the one occasion we did win at Peterborough I wasn't able to go.

From my time (late 60's and early 70's) then it has to be Leeds and Man United.
Mainly because their fans were so obnoxious.
Although I have to admit to my only case of what some might call football hooliganism
when I threw a half eaten pie over the fence at Turf Moor and struck a Leeds United fan in the face.
