5 out of 7 days begin with a T.
Definitely a pattern.

All the days we usually sign players end with a Y, it certainly gives us hope for a signing next week.

We live in a post 9/11 world. 7th Feb is a Thursday, albeit outside the transfer window. The plot thickens.mdd2 wrote:July 2nd is a Monday; we sign players on a Thursday

Its not transfer window time without a Craig Dawson thread.
Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
Right back or right wing - must be the new Graham Branch!

Actually we in the UK live in a post 11/9 world. It's a good job our 'incident' was 7/7.NottsClaret wrote:We live in a post 9/11 world. 7th Feb is a Thursday, albeit outside the transfer window. The plot thickens.

Decent player, right age for SD, but another right sided centre back not really what we need unless Tarka is moving on.

Not a bad player at all. But I hope we sign some younger defenders to bring through.
Our experienced PL signings haven't really done a lot, have they?

Firstly welcome back.ablueclaret wrote:Decent player, right age for SD, but another right sided centre back not really what we need unless Tarka is moving on.
Secondly, the ability to play RB or Right CB is a great pull, it gives us options, and I'd say he is quite a decent upgrade on Kev Long, without doing him a disservice.
Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
I agree, Jack Cork, Ashley Westwood and Matt Lowton have been awful. They had about 350 games in this league before we signed them.boatshed bill wrote:Not a bad player at all. But I hope we sign some younger defenders to bring through.

Bardsley and Walters were never signed to be first choice and Bardsley has been a good back up signing, Walters hasn't come off due to his injury and Lennon has only been here 5 minutes.

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
Surely means we can live without Bardsley if true. Would prefer a left sided centre half but if we let Bardlesy go we still have some wriggle room. Can’t believe we are in the position of having to look at the ceiling for the squad. Really do have some depth compared to the first couple of times we tried to compete at Prem level

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
We really missed out not signing a young back up during the last two windows.
When you consider Mee Trippier Keane and Tarkowski it is obvious the way we should have been heading. Our defensive success has been based on recruiting young talent and supporting it with the odd seasoned pro.
Always worries me when we start buying in ready made solutions or players who just duplicate what we have got.
If Tarka is leaving fine, if not there are more important positions to fill.

Noticed yesterday that the other Dawson, Michael returned to Forest, possibly paving the way for Joe Worrall to move on?

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
Good points. Although Lowton and Cork didn't seem much wanted at their clubs at the time we signed them. For me Lennon has done very little.mdd2 wrote:I agree, Jack Cork, Ashley Westwood and Matt Lowton have been awful. They had about 350 games in this league before we signed them.

Compare our signings from the championship, Hendrick, Brady, Tarkowski, Heaton, Pope, JBG.... all of whom I think have done very well.
Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
2x7 = 14
Dawson's music on Standish Street was at number 20
Dawson's squad number is 25
Dawson scored 2 goals in PL last season
Dawson is 28
Dawson has 2 arms
Dawson is going to ('to' has 2 letters)
Burnley has 7 letters in it
28 - 25 + 20 - 14 - 2 - 2 + 2 = 7
Signing confirmed.

Sometimes things happen at the eleventh hour to prevent a deal going through ... two such deals for young centre backs were very close in January - they may or may not re-visit them.ablueclaret wrote:We really missed out not signing a young back up during the last two windows.

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
I remember watching Dawson playing against Padiham for Radcliffle Borough in the North West Countys. Its never too late ! Fair play to him.
His brother was also captain for Ramsbottom.
Local lads(Rochdale i think)

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
Yes correct Rochdale lads. Craig did his a levels at Hopwood Hall College.
His brother Andy was too at Radcliffe Boro, Ramsbottom and Salford City. He was a quality, no nonsense, hard as nails centre half who would have played higher but for numerous bad injuries.
Think they have both played cricket for Rochdale CC, think Andy still does.

His brother was thought of as the better player, suffered badly with injuries, think he was at Salford last year.

Sensible indeed, but Westwood was a Championship player when we signed him.Buxtonclaret wrote:Far too sensible a post for a Clarets transfer thread there, mdd2!
These players, Cork, Westwood and Lowton were great signings by SD because their careers were faltering somewhat and all 3 had the chance to give their careers a boost.
Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
It’s a key position to fill and Dawson would fit your criteria of “the odd seasoned pro”. Assuming we don’t lose Tarkowski it Mee, centre half remains an area that we are short and Dawson would fit the bill.ablueclaret wrote:We really missed out not signing a young back up during the last two windows.

Always liked the look of Holding whenever i've seen him, admittedly not that often and i can't see him coming to warm the bench,Worrall might be a goer now Forest have re-signed Michael Dawson.Craig Dawson would be a decent signing but he signed a new improved contract last Summer so fee and wages won't be cheap.

Re: Craig Dawson 2/7 Burnley
The Holding one may be a “goer”; talk there is that Chambers is wanted more than Holding so he could be available.
Also his best mate from Arsenal was Oxlade-Chamberlain and he’s up north now....never mind the fact that his family are from the north west!
He’ll cost us a bit but we’ll worth it I think.

Pretty much, but nothing is ever 100% certain when it comes to players voicing their desire to move on.randomclaret2 wrote:Aren't refusing to go on a pre season tour and putting in a transfer request essentialy the same thing ?
The next step up would be standing in the centre spot of the Hawthorns and burning a giant WBA flag while singing "I want to break free" by Queen.
That would be close to 100% certainty
