"The chairman, Mike Garlick, said that financially, the club is still committed to trying to develop talent rather than making expensive signings."

With Gawthorpe up and running I wonder how long it will be before we see any youth team players make the grade?

You're looking at years and years in the future before we will see anyone step into the first team who we have brought through our academy. We've had Jay Rod, McCann and Chaplow in the last 15-20 years.

We paid to bring these players in, developed them, loan them out then just release them to sign for other clubs for nothing. Why was Ginnelly released? signed for a League One club for free this week, what was the point? he's only just turned 21. Will Agyei follow the same path? I honestly just don't think we're any good at developing young players, Aidan O'Neill started PL games for us, now he can't even make the bench and is just sat round wasting away.

Swansea’s wage bill looks horrific and presumably even higher for 17/18 season.

Our U23's took some hammerings last season, they seem to get spanked every week. I honestly don't see the point of it all

Spurs with 200m cash looks healthy. No issue with the debt as it is amortising we assume.

I think that was being saved up to pay for the new stadium. These are accounts for the year ending April 2017.

I think you will find that the U23s won five out of their last six games after a turn round in personnel. Also it was their first season at this new level under new management in the shape of Michael Duff with a new training complex.

Dwight McNeill made his first team debut.

Dunne had an excellent spell at Accy Stanley.

A newly planted tree does not always bear fruit in the first season.

I'm just not convinced we're any good at developing youngsters, they all show promise then fall off the face of the earth and go backwards, then end up released. Howieson and the rest of that crop, Ginnelly & Anderson gone this year. Chris Long was scoring goals in the Championship before he joined us, career gone backwards. George Greene, where is he? Luke Hendrie another we brought in, we just let him leave on a free transfer to League One.

Aiden O'Neill made a few first team appearances, what is he up to now? rotting in the reserves without even an appearance on the bench looking likely.

Agyei, Mitchell, Dunne will no doubt follow the same path as Ginnelly, Hendrie and Anderson.

Conlan the last survivor of that successful Youth Cup run, where is he? oh, he got shipped out on a free transfer.

I just don't see the point, we're evidently not a club capable of regularly producing talented youngster for whatever reason that may be, I'd either stump up the cash to get Cat 1 and the best practice or scrap it entirely.

Was gonna say on his debut the announcer was giving McNeil some fair praise

"Highest-paid director: No directors of Burnley are paid."

My favourite line in that article. Reminds us how fortunate we are.

Tony Scholes gets a fair whack off Stoke City.

No wonder he can employ a driver for the Burnley away games.

Its unlikely in the short term we're gonna produce a first team player because of how high up the football ladder Dyche has taken Burnley. In 10 years however its very plausible we could have dropped out the Premier League and with the parachute payments gone be back competing as a bottom 8 Championship, top 8 league one club. This is when having the training and youth setup we are building could really bare fruit and help us bring through young players into our first team and give us the edge to get out of League 1, survive in the Championship or maybe make a push for the Premier League

This is exactly it. In League 1 or The Championship more would come through. In the PL not many will come through for many clubs.

Also the only Premier league club that doesn't pay it's directors according to that report.

That's the fundamental difference when you have actual supporters of the club in charge, they do it for the love of the club and not for financial gain.

Reminds me just how lucky we are.

Yes absolutely the club looks in very good financial health.

Just because they're not taking money out now, doesn't mean they're not doing it for financial gain. The asset they own is appreciating in value.

or just that our Chief Executive is not on the Board - which means that we are the only club in the PL that doesn't have it's senior operational exec on it's board

Presumably league position is a big reason for that.

They came 7 places above us and with their style of football compared to our that season Id expect they got a few more live games so not really that much of a surprise

if you combine our gate receipts with catering, presumably directly related to matchday income, it's surprising how many clubs are in the 7-10m bracket

Whilst youth development is very hit and miss, we have excelled lately, in further developing good players for the first team. Changing the odd millions into many millions in value.

shows how over-reliant most clubs are on telly money.

just proves how careful we need to be.
