Johnston Press, who own the " i " Newspaper, " Burnley Express ", and over 200 local papers, are in discussions to have their Pension liabilities taken over by the the Pension Protection Fund, and have said they will be unable to repay £220m of Bonds, due to be repaid next year. Revenues are down 9%, year on year, following a 10% fall last year.
Share price has dropped 26% in two days, valuing the whole Company at £7.5m ..... in 2007, it had a market capitalisation of £1.4bn..

Local newspapers like the 'Burnley Express' have a very limited shelf-life in their present form.
- matter of time before they all go online...sadly in my opinion.

Personally think you cant beat reading physical copies. Be it the news or books. Snd I always like to get a paper if something specific in. Whether its someone I know achieving something (local sport or ten years inside ) or something momentous.

Reading the paper on a saturday morning is something I used to love doing in the footy season. Definitely tops looking at a screen. Although appreciate in this day of digital versions and people 'needing' the news now its a dying product.

They need to reinvent themselves. But the current generation of kids wont even read a story online. They need a snapchat video to tell them the news.

There is still a need for the physical newspaper. There's nothing better than a few scrunched up pages to get my log burner going on a cold winter day.

My paper round kept me in extra pocket money delivering the evening star and Express milk round as well for a bit these jobs will and are becoming a thing of the passed

I used to buy it every week, both Tuesday and Friday editions, but I can't recall when I last bought a copy and have you seen the price now? I'm told it is £1.20 per issue.

Local newspapers have been on their backside for a number of years now. As CT mentions above, I used to buy the Bury Times every week without fail. The last time I bought it (years ago) I read it before I had finished my dump.

Picked the LET in Colne ASDA a few years back, it was about 8 pages thin!

In the age of instant media print titles are already out of date before they leave the printing press sadly,some of the national and local papers maybe able to sustain an online presence,but i doubt they will be turning a large profit if any profit at all,i don't even read the online version of the BE or the LET anymore,i get my information from this site or by good old-fashioned word of mouth.

It’s probably because rather than embrace the digital age they instead fill the website with thousands of spam ads and ad blocker warnings that everyone just refuses to use it.

The Burnley Express website is absolute dog dirt. Takes ages to load, often hangs and when it does indeed load up, you click on an item and it refuses to display its content.

#0 was the number all journalists used to write at the end of their stories when they submitted them to the editor. It signalled the end, which is what the Burnley Express is facing.

Newspapers don't really have a chance. A couple of large catalogue companies have recently gone bankrupt, due to online shopping rising, and newspapers are going the same way due to more and more people reading news on the Interweb. More and more shops will close due to people buying online rather than leaving their house to physically walk there and buy it.

Not much you can do about it.

This happens on all the local Newspaper sites now. It annoys and makes me less likely to rush out to buy a printed copy.

I reckon a bit longer than ten but papers are going.

Tv companies won’t be able to evolve quick enough. If amazon get involved with live premier league, champ league, etc they can blow sky out the water. I’m not saying the tv companies will go, they will just change. Sky will be replaced by amazon or Facebook. The way kids watch tv these days is totally different to when I was young. Hours and hours on YouTube

I posted this originally 2 weeks ago, when the Company was valued at £ 7.5m, it closed today valued at less than £5.3m ... On 11th February 2014, the shares closed at £4.18p on the Stock Exchange, they are now classed as a Penny Share at 5.3p ...

Only if you follow the herd. I don't although my views would be seen as extreme to all those with the tambourines. I am sticking to my beliefs and values and not being led by others. I will die a proud man my Grandchildren will speak of my prehistoric views and how I never changed.

You shouldn't conform to what others want you to beleive in and follow. I don't want to be in the current fashion with the mindless masses. I am happily sailing away from modern day garbage society.
