Healthy option dog food at Colne. Lots of nonsense talked about dog food, especially on tv adverts. This is just good basic stuff at a decent price. Also the staff there are friendly and know what they are talking about

Re: Dog Food
It seems expensive but as it is such good quality, the amount the dogs need is very small making it reasonable in the long run

Re: Dog Food
Origen is what we use which is consistently the best dog food being 85% protein also wolf in the wilderness which is part of the same brand, fish, red meat, fowl & game all separated or mixed dependent on type & breed. It’s Canadian & a bit more exspensive than others but because it’s 85% protein they need less. Just to feed back that there really is a difference in dog foods & the way in which they react with your dog & it’s behaviour, lots of large companies are now getting heavily into animal feed dog food in particularly, for example Bakers dry is like fast food for dogs, always look for low grain content which is usually a sign of good dry food.

Re: Dog Food
We feed our collies and German Shepherd on a gluten free dry mix from the pet supplies place near crow Wood. It's very reasonable in big sacks (about £17) the dogs love it and they're in really good shape from it, including glossy coats.claretblue wrote:so does mine but the social worker thinks he should eat more greens!

Re: Dog Food
unless you're a scientist, its guesswork.
masses of brands, masses of prices, they'll tell you anything to flog the stuff, even locally its just sales pitch and word of mouth.
that wellbeloved stuff is about £ ten grand a bag, ridiculous.

on the contrary, it probably will, they might appear dirty b******, but they are omnivores, they eat sh*** because if its from cattle or sheep it still contains undigested nutrients.LoveCurryPies wrote:I suspect your dog sadly won’t live a full life.

Re: Dog Food
Although it can be more expensive, I can only recommend James Wellbeloved. We used it for years with our own dog and found it was good for him.
The funky coloured pebbles you get in Bakers/supermarket own-brand stuff contains all sorts of junk that isn't needed nutritionally.
It's really is worth going for quality food as bad food can effect the temperament, behaviour and concentration of a dog. Some dogs can also get a little hyperactive of some foods which contain sugars, which I doubt you'll want to encourage with a cocker!
Edit: afterthought - we used to keep an eye on Pets at Home, as they fairly frequently had offers like buy 3 for 2 which brought the prices in line with the cheaper stuff.

Re: Dog Food
Changed my dogs onto CSJ dog food, they do all different types of dry, we use one called That’ll Do, was recommended by a group who have working dogs. Google to find your nearest stockist. They all seem to be doing well on it, lovely glossy coats.

my last one lived to just under 17 years.....climbed every munro on the west side of scotland every peak in the lakes over "2,000 feet, walked the Pennine Way, West Highland Way and South-West Coast path (570 miles at the time.)
...and apart from an his injections as a pup, never visited a vet in his life.
Re: Dog Food
We have previously been using Skinners but we have been advised that we should look for a better quality food
Re: Dog Food
I knew a bloke whose wife fed him James Wellbeloved until it killed him.
He was sat in the road licking his b0llocks one day and got run over.

Fatboy47, I apologise. My message was very blunt and I certainly wouldn’t wish harm on any dog. Hope you are right and they enjoy a long healthy life.

We have a 3 year Springer, she will not eat dried food on it's own , tinned dog food is a big no ,so we get Harrington dried and cook a full chicken and she gets it mixed all week works out so cheap as she only needs a bit of chicken to make it tastierMRG wrote:2yr old Cocker

Our dogs, on Millie's are both cockers too (10 years and 16 months). It was recommended to me by the younger one's breeder when we decided to change her from a raw diet to a mainly dry diet.
