Not in his wildest dreams could he have imagined all this 12 months ago. Dreams really do come though if you work hard enough!

You want them to get shots in so he can make saves but then you are as nervous as hell in case they score - I was just the same with Tom. And again the hairs on the back of my neck were up when I saw him coming on.

It’s incredible really. I went on my first Burnley match in 1975. In my first 41 years as a supporter we have zero England caps. Now in the last 25 months we’ve had five players make their England debuts.

I'd seen a few in previous years. Not seen but you know what I mean. With games televised now I've seen each of the five play for England. Absolutely amazing isn't it?

Cannot add to that CT. I watched the game with one eye on my laptop until Nick came on then I was as nervous as watching us play 1-0 up and 30 minutes to go. Worse was I didn't feel any better when we went 2-0 up in case we conceded.Is it me or was his kicking a bit better?

The commentator referred to him having played at Elland Road previously for Charlton in the Championship.

His last game for Charlton was against us, Leeds was the game before and already relegated Charlton won 2-1 with JBG scoring the first goal. Chris Wood was in the Leeds team. Who would have thought that two years on, those three players would have helped us qualify for Europe.

And you missed Pearce off the list - Neenan by far the worst of those for me (I don't include Woodworth given he only played one game).

Not at all, and I don't think you'd get many of the players to agree with you that Hansbury was worse than Neenan. Most of the players I've spoken to considered him the worst of the lot. Not much between Hansbury and Pearce who I really do think were both way ahead of Neenan who was downright shocking.


But, the thread is about good goalkeepers - so brilliant night for Nick Pope.

Looks to be a smashing lad-so proud of him and our club. Got to say just as nice was seeing Tom Heaton sitting on the bench both friendlies. Fair does to Southgate for promoting the togetherness in the entire squad

Southgate has spent enough time at the Turf to have noticed how to get a team spirit together.

Are we the only Club to have have 2 England keepers at the same time?

When I first went on Turf Moor regularly, we had a young man in goal called Colin McDonald, who went on to represent England at the World Cup in Sweden in 1958. Unfortunately his career was ended by a bad injury received when playing for his country: since then we have had many good keepers and some poor keepers in every division through good and very bad times: to see Nick Pope come on to gain his first England cap tonight, whilst club captain, Tom Heaton, is still involved with the squad (sixty years after the World Cup in Sweden) made me feel so proud to be part of this Burnley history. Thank you Sean Dyche and everyone connected with the club.

I worry all this is a dream and i'm gonna wake up to the news we've been placed in administration or summat.

These truly are the best of times. Enjoy it boys and girls. Don't worry about stuff you can't control, just enjoy this for what it is now.

Things have come a long way since the Mark Kendall Disaster at Blackpool in the early 90's.

Nicky Walker and Andy Marriot had been our best goalkeepers until now and they were only on loan for a couple of games a few decades ago.

Peiirse, Cryton, Mopololuos, some Eastern European bloke in his pyjama bottoms, and many dodgy others. We've have had some proper sh*t in the nets in the past.

2 current England International Goalkeepers. Unbelievable.

However, we have to resign ourselves to losing one of them. Both will want and deserve Premiership Football week in and week out.

It's not a bad place to be at ?

And only one of them no longer plays for us, so technically we currently have 4 England internationals in the team. The levels that Sean Dyche is taking our club to are just incredible.

I remember watching Tony Waiters the ex Lashers keeper.He was actually a goal keeping coach play at the Manor v Oxford United in the FA cup
Tony was way past his best and we lost.He went on to manage Canada.Yes we have had some dross in the middle ol our goal but not anymore

Southgate heaped praise on Heaton and two other standby players for their attitudes during the last week. The other two were Adam Lallana & Jake Livermore. One of the other two standby players was Tarky, the fifth was Lewis Cook but he must have departed.

You are basing that on one game at Blackpool - he only played one other league game for us and kept a clean sheet against a set of thugs from Chesterfield who included a certain Sean Dyche in their team. Kendall had been a very good goalkeeper for Spurs and Wolves to be fair and had already retired when Mullen brought him to Burnley to do some coaching, then threw him into the team because he'd presumably had another fall out with Pearce.

He was awful that day at Blackpool admittedly but no worse than a few other goalkeeping displays I've seen over the years. He never played again after that.


But, we've got two outstanding England goalkeepers now. We've moved on, let's be really happy about that. I've never met Pope but if he's half as grounded as Tom then we've also got two outstanding individuals as well.

Just listening to any interview by Nick Pope shows he is very clearly a level headed, take it as it comes, ordinary, unassuming lad. We are very lucky to have 2 such keepers. Perhaps we should play them both!

Went to the game last night, very proud moment to see our young keeper get his first cap....on another note, I was sat in the John Charles Stand. What a **** hole of a stand that is, makes the Cricket field look luxurious in comparison

Shout out for that save last nice which was fired at him. A lot of keepers would have pushed that round the post as it was absolutely fizzed at him! He just made it look simple. As much as I love Tom Heaton......Pope looks the real deal.

Congratulations to Nick, he has certainly made so very many of us prouder than the proudest man in..... How I echo the sentiments of others on here just willing the lad to do well and keep a clean sheet.

The problem is now we have two England keepers and only one can play, however if we get to the group stage of the Europa League that would mean with the qualifying rounds 10 or 12 games, 3 more in each of the Domestic Cup Competitions and the season could have potentially 18+ more games. Having 2 Great Keepers would make sense, who to play and in which games would be a headache I wouldn't want, however I know a man who will sort it, in whom we must trust.
