If they helped Lowton and Barnes play as well as they did it's not quite so gloomy. Try and post something positive just once in a while. You might feel better for it.

As put on the other thread, two very good players for this level that will make us stronger.
Reading the local papers down there and what the WBA fans say about these two on social media is always a good barometer I find. And it is all very positive!
Some supporters need to be realistic about our transfer dealing this summer.... I would be happy with these two.

And they contributed hugely to that?
These are both pedestrian signings and do nothing to increase the diversity of our squad.

Bardsley played in 3 wins and 4 draws over the season, that’s 13 points worth of game time.
Included in those was a win at Bournemouth, in which he was excellent.
Also played in the win at Ewood in the cup.
Pedestrian, hardly.
And Walters was injured for 3/4 if he season and then kept out by our attackers who’d been in great form, not his fault.

Express & Star reporting that West Brom have turned it down and would want considerably more. Also suggesting that they wouldn't let Jay Rod go if Salomon Rondon was to leave if someone, Newcastle being likely, meet his release clause.

If we went in at £25m as a starting point, I am reasonably confident we knew it would probably take closer to £30m and are willing to go that far.
Like it or not, West Brom value Rodriguez at £20m and Dawson in this market is worth at least £10m, for sure.

We will do it the hard way. That’s what we do. We value a player at a certain amount and that’s where we go to. If we don’t get the player, we move on to the next player who will also have a certain value to us.
It is a policy that has worked very well for us recently, let’s hope it continues to work. Trouble is, we can be in danger of being laughed out of the room if we go in with could be described as insulting offers, not that I believe the figures being discussed are insulting in this case.
Both decent players, both add to the squad. And if SD thinks he can do something with them, let’s get em in.

Peace isn't there anymore so it is a different regime to deal with from the days of trying to Dorrans and Dawson the first two times around.

I can’t normally see abc’s posts, unless they are quoted by someone else. Trouble is, once you have read summat, it can’t be unread.
Something very underhand and very snide about his post quoted in #13 above by Steve. Jumping on the l’equipe bandwagon from last season by the sounds of it.
Don’t know what others make of it, but I know what I made of it. Shame really, given we are ALL supposed to be supporters of this club.

We should go for Rondon then and Dawson. Overall cheaper than with Jay

Agreed. I just hope we don't go in at £26m....then £26.5m....then............... Let's get this done!

Rondon is too similar to Wood, Barnes and Vokes. Whether he is better is another debate. JRod has different attributes that for me would give us more options.

We might get a better value striker than Jay but we should go all out for Dawson. Cracking centre back and almost as good at full back. He's surpisingly decent going forward.

When you said it was a done deal, and he would be the first signing , it is irrelevant whether your calendar is broken or not.
You're the same chap as the one on the football rumours site, with a worse strike rate than Juke had for us.
The fact you can't say the name of this player due to letting your source down, even though it's a done deal kind of scuppers any credibility you're trying to get.

Walters season was ruined by injury, we don't know what he would have contributed, Bardsey was always a back up for Lowton he was signed for that reason. If Heaton hadn't been injured, would you have said Pope was a bad signing

I'm surprised that Rodriguez didn't put a release clause in. You'd have thought that if he agreed a 50% wage cut on relegation, he'd be able to insist on a release cause at the price they paid for him.

I don't need to wait, you've already failed.
Pick another team, and just say the club pulled the plug on the done deal, you're down to an 18/1 chance now, better odds.

Thanks for alerting me to this. This poster served a ban last season for suggesting we signed players based on their colour and nationality so he has previous. I’ve taken the appropriate action.

It's never as straightforward these days.
One big factor that you won't see in mainstream reports is the amount of money that is paid up front and how much is paid in instalments. The press typically only report the net figure.
Obviously WBA are looking at a big hole in their budget so, for example, £25 million up front might be more enticing to them than £30 million spread over 3 or 4 seasons.
Because of our amazing healthy current finances we perhaps have the upper hand in these negotiations.
Another factor is whether these players
want to join us. If they do and have expressly told WBA that they'd like to join us then it improves our hand again.

in fairness to abc, i don't think he was saying anything like the l'equipe article's garbage. it seemed more that he was saying both players are similar to what we have and whilst i wouldn't necessarily agree with that regarding rodriguez, i would agree about dawson, who is almost a right footed ben mee (albeit one who scores more goals).
i think both would certainly improve the squad and i believe dawson is very interested in the move.

Yes, I agree. Nobody (particularly not Burnley) pays all fees up front. It's all about how the deals are broken down. Personally, I could see £25m up front being enough but agreeing the add ons or further instalments might be the issue.
I seem to recall the reason why our deal to sign Ross Wallace from Preston was so attractive to PNE as the whole £800k was an upfront payment and PNE needed some cash.

I'm not sure what Rodriguez did last season to justify West Brom doubling his price. Was he in his last year of contract at Southampton?
