One of the most incredible Turf Moor nights I can remember - amazing, amazing atmosphere and we murdered the whinging, cheating Italians

It was - think it had been on St. James' Street previously but had burned down and moved to the Mechanics. It was Mecca who owned it I think.

A great night and thanks for the memory but if they had 4 missing we had 3.
Smith, Todd and Latcham were all good backup but no better.
Latcham played up front, I believe, but did Fred Smith play LB?

The Tottenham semi-final second leg at the Turf was a special night, but the Napoli game topped the lot.

I think this has to have been my best night ever at Turf Moor. Exactly why another European adventure is so exciting!

Mecca didn't own the Casino Club in the Mechanics building on Manchester Rd. Mecca used the building as a stop gap ballroom between the burning down of the Mecca Empress Dance Hall (opposite the entrance to he Keirby) in 1960 and the opening of their Locarno dance hall (later known as the Cats Whiskers etc). At the time of the Casino Club in the late sixties it was owned (leased) by Brian Tattersall, who also has the Cabaret Club in Rosegrove, as part of his gambling empire in the Burnley area.

That was a hell of a night. I was 13 and stood behind the goal in the Shed yards away from Andy Lochhead getting stamped on.
Cue absolute mayhem. The whole place was seething, pure hatred for an evil excuse for a football team.

Why didn't Lochhead ever get a cap for Scotland? Problems with the manager at the time or superior alternatives?

I think, also, it was an era, when they preferred Scotland-based players.

I remember there being lots of coppers in the Cricket Field End that night. Most of it was being thrown at the Napoli goalkeeper in the form of (old) pennies. In fact I risked a few ha'pennies myself!

They did have the likes of Ian St John, Alex Young and Alan Gilzean to name three

No one in his time was better at heading in crosses than Andy.Great in the air and hard as nails.
I watched him score v Spurs the season before for a rare Burnley win at the Lane.
A great night v Napoli we were there too
