Europa league - Seeded?

Please can someone explain what exactly it means to b seeded? I know that a seeded team cannot be drawn against another seeded team, but I don't quite fully understand what the term means.
I overheard a conversation saying a seeded team will play at home, is this correct?

It's a way of 'fixing' a competition so the best/ highest profile competitors don't play each other too early which may result in viewers losing interest.

An open draw would be far more fun

It means seeded teams play non-seeded teams when the draw is made.
No, it doesn't mean they will play at home, they will still play two legs, one at home and one away, but which comes first is incorporated as part of the draw.

Does being seeded playing a non-seeded team mean that the seeded team will be away in the 1st leg and home in the 2nd?

I took Tony's post to mean it doesn't. Who plays home first is part of the draw.

No - it's drawn

Suppose you already have an advantage being seeded without the added advantage of getting to play home in the second match, although it is like that for football league playoffs etc.

But that advantage has been earned through league position.

True. Much like away goals rules, there is no consistency

Ok, that's good. As then we maybe at home in the 1st leg which would gives us an extra week to sort out travel for the away leg! UTC

Cork City have drawn Legia Warsaw in the CL.
A defeat would see them drop into the EL.

We can't play Cork City. They're in the other half of the draw.
The possible opponents are on this site.
https://www.footballseeding.com/europea ... ing-18-19/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We are in the "League" path. The "champions" path is a completely separate draw until the group stages.
In Round 2, we play any of the teams listed on the "unseeded" side, or their first round conquerors. All the teams in bold are exempt to round 2, all the teams not in bold have to play in round 1.
In Round 3, we play any of the teams listed on the "unseeded" side, or their second round conquerors.
[Or just possibly, if that team was knocked out in Round 1, we play the team that won the Round 2 game that our drawn opponents would have played.] Same as before with teams in bold.
In Round 4, we're not seeded at present because there are 13 seeds and we are 19th. But if 6 of the teams seeded above us are knocked out in round 2, then we become seeded. Note that it makes no difference to our seeding if higher ranked teams get knocked out in round 3, because the round 4 draw will have already been made.
The real confusion is because the draws are made early. So Seville, for example, are the highest ranked team and will be seeded in every round. But if Seville are beaten by (say) Coleraine in round 2, then Coleraine take over their seeding and opponents for round three; nobody moves up any places. But in round 4, Coleraine will be bottom of the heap, and everyone else moves up one. If Seville lose to (say) Aberdeen in Round 3, then Aberdeen take over their seeding and opponents for round 4.
(Round 4 is what UEFA call the play-off round.)

I read on that detailed site that we would likely be seeded in the 2nd and 3rd qualifying round, but not the 4th

Explaination of the draw mechanics for tomorrow. 1 draw of 10 balls (5 seeds+5 non-seeds) in separate pots with 1 ball being drawn from each and placed in a 3rd pot where a further draw which will determine who is the home team in the 1st leg. This draw will be the one which decides all 5 ten team groups. There will be another draw using 12 balls for the final 2 groups.

Chances are we won't know the opponent when the draw is made, it will be one of two teams and that won't be resolved until a week before the match.
We may start selling home tickets before then but I can't see any way we will be able to sell away tickets.

I believe half the sides in the 4th round are seeded and the other half aren't so they're split in two pots. It would depend which teams are left in, so really we need a few of the potentially higher seeds than us (if they made round 4) to lose and bump us up to seeded.

To be seeded in the 4th Qualifying round we would need 6 higher seeds to get knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round because the draw takes place before the 3rd round is played. Unlikely

That's actually a very good point which makes it likely we'll be unseeded, How did you calculate we'll need 6 high seeded teams to lose in round 1 or 2?

Think it’s because we are around 18th or 19th seeded team and only 12 are seeded at play off round

Yeah makes sense, I thought more than 12 got through from the qualifiers but I just read further up the topic that there's a separate draw of some sort for teams who fail to qualify for the Champions League. All seems a little confusing, I could get used to it though

The draw's at 2pm in case anybody was going to tune in at noon.
They take care of a few other things before they get to ours.

The club will know if we are home or away on the 29th as soon as today's draw is done. They will also know which 2 (or 3 if the lower seeded clubs are playing in the prelim round) so they can make tentative travel plans for the away trip. It is us supporters who will need to scramble if we wish to go to the away leg.
