I am looking to buy an SUV in the next 2/3 months and atm I have narrowed it down to the following cars

They are......
Seat Ateca
Skoda Karoq
Peugeot 3008
Renault Kadjar

Does anyone have any of the above SUV's and if so any comments re them whether positive or negative would be appreciated
Or can anyone recommend any other SUV?

I am definitely looking for an SUV as I have a history of back problems including currently having a bulging disc and trapped nerve for the 3rd time now.
And so I am looking for a car with high seating that I can basically slide into as opposed to having to bend right down

I think the Skoda offers the highest deposit contribution. Something like £3000 towards the car. I looked at one before I bought my A6 and they're really nice. If you have any questions about PCP by the way, if that's what you'd end up paying through, let me know. Spent more time learning about it than is worth mentioning.

I'd recommend trying out CarWow too.

My daughter just bought a 3008. Really lovely car, Peugeot quite up market these days, solid build and nice materials. At the other extreme, I just traded in my 7 year old Peugeot 5008 that I had from new for an 8 year old loaded up Land Rover Freelander 2. What a cracking vehicle, drives like new after 80,000 miles. Similarly have had years of back pain, this has heated seat back!

Don't know if it is an option on the 3008 but the new 5008 has a massage seat option. Tried it at Carfest last year, works a treat. Also try Drivethedeal.com, that is where I bought the 5008 from. Good service and very "cheap".

I have a Nissan Qashqai Tekna... best vehicle I've ever had

I forgot to mention that because I have numbness in my left leg and foot due to the trapped nerve that I would be looking for an automatic as I sometimes find it difficult feeling the clutch

I think that in some engine sizes for instance with the Seat Ateca 1.0 litre they only do a manual gearbox

And yes Jack I will be looking into paying through PCP and would certainly see what CarWow come up with.
Although with the Skoda Karoq CarWow came up with nil savings.

My next door neighbour is the Car Sales Manager at Perry's here in MK and he has in his words offered not to sell me a car but to help me find the right car

And NewForestClaret I don't necessarily atm at least need heated seats as my back is fine when seated in a car.

Best advice I had was to go to Motorpoint and try out all the cars in the bracket you want, that way you'll be able to sit in them all and see how you get in and out of them. You'll also be able to gauge them for comfort and leg position. I'm 6ft 4in and it was surprising that not all big cars have plenty of room, some of the smaller ones have more leg and head room!! You can make your decision then shop around at other garages for the best deal. I ended up getting a Hyundai Tucson and haven't regretted it.

Volvo XC60 or if you want exclusivity and a very very good motor, Subaru XV. You won`t see another one around. If you want off-road, they will climb walls!

I'd like to go down to Motorpoint to test out a few cars for size but I'm worried about being ambushed by an aggressive sales team - some of the online reviews aren't very positive.

Have a look at the Hyundai Tuscon, we've got a 1.6 GDI SE ( Nav ) .... excellent driving position, heated front seats, and won an award for comfort on long trips recently.... built on the same chassis as the Kia Sportage and not paying for the badge either...

I am 90% sure I will be buying a Seat Ateca 1.4 TSI SE
But before I do does anybody have any comments either positive or negative about the Peugeot 3008

Both the Seat Ateca and the new Peugeot 3008 get consistently good reviews and high ratings

Both cars are on a par although the Seat Ateca is sportier and the Peugeot 3008 has a softer ride and a plush interior but is it worth the extra ££££ 's outlay?

Ive jus got mine from motorpoint in the grove. Ask for jordan dean. No pushy sales jus ava wander around

Firstly, don't be put off by Motorpoint salespeople. Yes, they are salespeople and have targets to meet like in any other line of sales work but having happily purchased 5 or 6 motors from them over the years I have never felt pressured to buy a single one of them.

Secondly, my last two cars have been the 3008 and the Kadjar (both purchased from Motorpoint) and I would go for the 3008 if it was a choice of those two.

Not so exclusive here but I drive an XV, can recommend but not sure how easy to buy or maintain in UK. Although for Subarus here, the Forrester is the most popular purchase.

Seat ateca or the bmw 2 series active tourer both very good cars . Forget the French they are not in the same league . I have the ateca and i can’t fault it . I work with cars every day and am extremely picky . I work with Audi be seat Skoda Volvo Toyota so see a good range of cars .

And yet the CEO of Audi has just be been detained on the Emissions scandal

Exactly this -including my latest car 8 days ago!! (although drove down to motorpoint Derby to pick it up - Burnley motorpoint has a much nicer feel). Its amazing how different a car can feel when you sit in it compared to what you expect - especially as they'll just happily give you the keys so you can spend 15 mins playing with the media systems etc.

hubby drives a works car, 3008, he has had numerous and says it's far better than anything else they have given him. I drive it occasionally and it's very good and especially like dash and info screen set up. Can't comment on the other

Can any of these be called genuine SUVs? Serious question. I would assume that an SUV would be 4wd, large, etc?

Probably not a big enough SUV, but I am about to buy a Honda HRV in northern Thailand. It has the 1800 cc Honda Civic engine and is automatic.

Not a bad shortlist, love a couple of the Volvo designs. The Ford Edge looks nice too.

My mate went for a VW R-Line, and it's very, very smart.

Hopefully he didn't buy the Renault. Saw a 68 plate yesterday, bonnet up, engine steaming and 100 yard trail of oil behind it.

I wouldn't touch a French car with a barge-pole, or anything that uses a French engine/drivetrain like the Evoque or GLA.

I looked at buying a motor there... was gonna work out about £100k/$200k for a golf R.

Sales tax is 4x the list price isn't it?

Helped a Lady friend of the family a few months ago when her disabled adult daughter qualified for a mobility car, when reassessed for Personal Independence Payment, in the transition over from DLA ....

She fancied an auto Peugeot 3008 Gt-line, but the waiting list was over 6 months from the factory in France. You could sense the frustration in the sales staff .... the French were probably burning sheep, blocking the auto-routes or in bed with someone else's wife, but they sure as hell weren't making cars !!

She went for a Qashqui instead, supplied and delivered in 4 days !!

If you need the 4 wheel drive associated with SUV's I wold suggest looking at Jeep or some Landrover models as they use a normal 2 wheel drive which saves on fuel but with the ability to engage the 4 wheel drive as and when required.

We've pretty much set our sights on the Skoda Karoq but we are waiting till there is more choice in the 2nd hand market with them.

Kadjar is a great choice - good price and equipment levels and usually comes top or near top in comparative tests.
Can’t go too far wrong though with these choices - the majority of components come from the same factories and they are all designed in wind tunnels so the differences are fairly minimal

Just bought a Nissan X-trail, very impressed with it so far.

Brother in law just got the Skoda Karoq (mini Kodiak) very impressed its less than a year old demonstrator 5,000 on the clock

Another one here for the Skoda Karoq - really like it, a very good motor car.
Only had it a couple of months but love everything about it.

Got it to replace a Honda HRV which was also a lovely car. Not much to choose between them.

Kia Sportage is the front runner at the moment but slightly concerned about the mpg on the petrol version. Don’t do enough miles to warrant getting a diesel.
