How are the new stands looking? I've not been to Burnley since the season ended so i guess I'll be in for a shock when pre season arrives.

From what I've seen and admittedly I haven't been round behind the Jimmy Mc stand, but you might be surprised by how little has changed.

Happen to be in the area, nothing has gone up, could watch the game from outside. Bob lord windows getting a lick of paint and lots of hgv been dropping gear off daily. Live and direct...

Barnfield must be loving our recent success and hope it continues for a long time.

No chance I wouldn't have thought. Aberdeen are here six weeks today. They encountered a lot of problems underneath, believe a cobbled street was discovered.

Went down on Saturday and also saw they have started work on the memorial garden opposite the JM stand.

The delights of hidden surprises.

I'm working on a job in London where the civils contractor discovered there used to be a steelworks beneath where they were drilling the pile.

Currently about 30 weeks (a full season) behind programme!

It's only 6 weeks till we play Aberdeen on 2nd August. I would have at least expected to see the foundations in by now!

Finds like this are quite fascinating and really sums up the club being smack bang in the centre of town, so much more relevant then those arty tarty Roman and Viking things people harp on about.
Buildings like this seem to be going nowhere for a long time but you have to get the foundations/pads right for the steel work. Watch it fly up then.

I cant remember or imagine there was a cobbled Street there. The first floodlight was situated in the area behind the little brick wall in the picture. I remember when they dug out a massive hole to lay the first floodlight foundation, a JCB digger was used and it was below the ground level. There's a seam of sand in the area and where the floodlight was going to be built was in its path, so they had to dig really deep for solid ground. At the corner of Harry Potts Way (Brunshaw Rd) and Beehole Lane was the groundsman house. Next to that was the start of the high brick wall with a big green gate, very close to where the above pictures were taken. Brian Millers son David spent hours kicking a ball against that wall and gate when he was very young.

HA HA - I suspect it might have been a pit track to be honest. And no, I don't remember the pit either but I do remember the old pit gates from when I was a kid.

I was down there today so took a couple of pics - here they are.

Barnfield’s Disabled Facilities construction

Is it just me that thinks that Barnfield should have made more progress by now and look in danger of letting us down by missing deadlines

Not sure that Barnfield knew what was under the ground when they started digging

Not rocket science to look through the history books and see what was there before

Rumour is they hit the dry powder store. Apparently it's in an underground bunker, but nobody remembered it was there.

Barnfield priced the job. I doubt they did the survey etc that would have been the architects appointing a special st. Unless it was a design and build in house by Barnfield

Had a wander past today....nothing visible in either corner. Looks exactly as it has done for several weeks now.

First port of call is to always blame the builder. No point rushing steel up until the ground is sorted. Short cuts endanger the finished job and lives. When the steel goes up the building will motor on.

We’ve built 4 new stands since the 70s to not know what is underneath is beyond belief

I’m hearing that the delays are caused by our club wanting it to blend in with the Bob Lord Stand, but the trouble is finding 45 year old cladding that’s rusting and looking a mess.... :D

Old mine shafts run.underneath the beehole end which I thought was commonly known.that aside as long as we have good weather things will push on.

If any delay occurs do we know that it will be purely down to Barnfield? There could be a range of factors that could mean they are not at fault. Blaming Barnfield seems to be just based on supposition.

Looking at the corner of the Jimmy Mac Bob Lord surely the floodlight pilon will have to come down and be relocated as its in the way.

They are building round it if you look on the plans on the council website, the pylon is included in the new building.

Plenty of Coal still left under Burnley. The problem is that it’s all wet.

New Corner areas .....

Posted: Tue Jul 10, 2018 9:57 pm
by Clarets4me
I was dropping some friends off at Blessed Trinity around 7pm and took a quick recce ....

Looks like some footings in between the Bob Lord/Jimmy Mac. stands, but the area between the Jimmy Mac/Longside stands looked like an abandoned archaeological dig .... there seemed to be 6 or 7 large pillars of Concrete, between 3 and 6 feet in height set into the ground possibly from when the original terraces were constructed/improved in the past, they certainly didn't look new...

The Bob Lord/Jimmy Mac corner will take priority I assume because the Police control box will be there, and without that functioning, I doubt we'd get a safety Certificate ? I'm no expert but I'd be very impressed if it's all complete by early September ... the memorial garden looks great and the sprucing up of the Bob Lord exterior is an obvious improvement ...

Has anyone got the number for Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS " Big Build " team ??? ;) ;)
