Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
I currently have a huge spider (not quite the size of a Goliath Birdeater one) in my downstairs toilet.
I'm a lover and protector of spiders but I'm a tad worried that a slightly intoxicated human galoot (me) will step on him/her late into the night.
I'm quite happy to leave it where it is, but would it be better if it was taken outside?

It's summer time. Send it on an all-inclusive to the inside of a Dyson cylinder. It's probably what it would want.

Re: Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
as long as you dont kill it bin, that'll do, probably ok outside, but i sometimes feel sorry for them when they are put outside because of all that hard work its done just to get inside in the first place.

I don't think they do, 'cos they seem very keen to come back in.
Chucked one out four times yesterday, but he kept coming back in.
What is it with them and Artex?

If I had a Peruvian drug lord in my downstairs toilet, i'd be doing all that I can to get him outside.

My spider voted to leave the EU, because 8 sandals would cost him/her a fortune.

Re: Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
7 years bad luck to kill a spider.
Living in a house built in in the year 1742 I have spiders a plenty, it's a good sign as it means the house is dry.
More than can be said for her fud in 10 minutes when I start my manly mating call. (once I've finished my tea and emptied my bladder)

Spiders should be evacuared from all property inhabited by humans. The further away the better.

RIP rumpus. It is often said that the male (usually significantly smaller than the female, down to 1% of her size as seen in Tidarren sisyphoides) is likely to be killed by the female after the coupling, or sometimes even before intercourse has been initiated.
...and you weirdos are still letting these disgusting, horrific monsters go un-killed? There's something not right with a person who conjures sympathy for a spider. Seriously, it's a litmus test for a person's humanity.

I sincerely believe that early existential nihilist philosophy was largely informed by folk being sick to the back of their motherf***ing teeth of sweeping spiders out of their houses.Millertime v1.7 wrote:Mate listen

We employed the services of a professional well known company to deal with mice last year, the chap told us that mice and spiders will always find there way back into your house no matter how many times you put them out.

Re: Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
No. They die. But they die in such a way that you only indirectly directly caused it, so it's better (for you) than hitting them with a shoe but worse for them.
It's like putting your goldfish in the canal. I'm sure, technically, it's not your fault if it dies. But it is.

NO
Like the OP i had a large spider in my bathroom and so decided to trap it in an empty glass and move it outside. I deposited the spider gently on a small roof outside of my bedroom window and 15 seconds later a large bird swooped down and flew off with it.

Re: Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
We had one living in the gap between the wardrobe and the wall for weeks. He seemed happy and only came out to see us in the morning (as far as we knew
) , so left him to go about his life.
Was always concerned at the lack of things to eat as it wasn't really fly season. He either starved to death or went elsewhere to get some better eats.

How can they die if they always find their way back in?
Only tend to move them outside when they are stuck in the bath to be honest.

House spiders certainly do.
To avoid them coming back, but them on a neighbours doorstep (for added assurance knock on the door and run away)

There are some beasts that inhabit my shed through the summer. They have their corners of the shed and never I have I found them in my toolbox / overalls.
I return the respect.
Any that enter the house are left in peace, unless wife / child squeals.

House spiders are exactly that. They'll find a way back in because they're not outdoor spiders. Just like if you bring in a garden spider it will make its way back outside!

Re: Do spiders appreciate being moved outside?
Most UK spiders have the potential to bite you and although none are deadly, some can have a painful bite. These include daddy longlegs and the big buggers that come in for shelter in autumn. I used to put them on my hand but now (based upon above information) trap them in glass and turf them out before the missus splatters them with her shoe,
