Andres Iniesta of the goalkeeping world apparently.

Very poor. Southgate was obsessed with him and Butland but always favoured Pickford.

He certainly doesn’t inspire confidence.

That’s right. And I wouldn’t want Iniesta in goal either.

Bag of sh!te.

I don't understand the love-in with him tbh, irrespective of Pope's involvement.

He'd be 3rd choice at Burnley...

Aye Martin.

But the grey clouders on this board keep telling us it's all about the footwork for a goalkeeper.

Behind Pope, Butland and a fully fit Heaton for me.

Still, when he shares the same goalkeeping coach for club and country it’s no surprise he gets picked.

Quelle surprise as soon as we concede a goal we have a thread about how "our Nick" would have saved it.

Joe Neenan would have saved it.

I can't honestly see that anywhere.

He went with the correct hand. A keeper had a longer reach with his left hand when facing a shot like that from that angle.

England's man of the match for me.

He made the attempt to save that shot look so convincing as well.

Without my CT Glasses I think Butland would be my number one. Pickford wouldn't have got in the squad, Heaton would have been in but, given the lack of game time I accept it was right not to take him.

Pundits finally rounding on Pickford.
All think he was wrong handed and very iffy.

Gary Neville, Lee Dixon and a goalkeeping coach disagree with you.

I'm pleased he went with his wrong hand though.

Always going to end in tears with this guy between the posts.

Forget the fancy footwork, he's simply too small for a top class keeper. That winning goal was nowhere near the corner, exactly the same as the one he conceded at Old Trafford for Everton this season.

Incredible that Southgate can't see it.

Neither.

England are in a significantly better position to win the tournament because of losing that game.

Composed when playing the ball around the back in the first half, and that definitely helps us launch our attacks. But he dealt with every shot he faced poorly tonight. Should have stopped the goal and parried 3 other routine saves back into play. He is a big worry and the fact that the TV pundits have picked up on it proves that it isn’t a Burnley bias to think so. He also should have saved the pen against Tunisia no matter what anyone says. To be fair he’s got extremely short arms which doesn’t help.

Having three inexperienced keepers was always going to be iffy.

Not sure that changing it now for two other inexperienced keepers is worth the risk to be honest

A very poor attempt but we all know the best English keeper in Nick on last seasons stats re clean sheets.

What’s the point in people keep bleating about Iceland? Of course we could lose to Columbia quite conceivably, and if not then Switzerland or Sweden will provide a very tough test. Absolutely no doubt about it. But there’s still more chance of us beating those teams than Brazil.

Play him as a sweeper if he's good with his feet, but you need a competent goalkeeper as well.

Good to see Wrighty pointing out his flaws and highlighting how Columbia might exploit them.

Bleating on???

A team like Brazil would be easier for a full strength England to break down.

Nowt to do with experience.

If a goalkeeper at this level doesn't know which hand to go with then it's a poor do.

He looks scatty and has plenty of mistakes in him.

The tournament favourites will be easier for England to break down than Sweden or Switzerland? If you say so.
