You've not heard that clip of the commentary on Ronaldo's free kick against Spain then.

How many foreign commentaries on their own team have you heard?

What have Columbia done (other than play up to every dirty South American stereotype?)

My head drops as soon as I see a game is to be screened only on ITV. Commentators and pundits who seem to be only able to drone on with a whole load of cliches and drivel.

England did as much, or nearly as much, diving and pretending to be hurt - the elbow on Henderson's chin that caused him to roll about holding his eye being one example. The difference was that Columbia were extremely stupid play-actors with no self-control, and with no apparent idea that rugby tackling is illegal even in the penalty area.
I agree that the commentary was abysmal.

Hoddle can be very astute, tactically, but his voice is sleep inducing.

Don't mind Hoddle but the other guy (forget his name) just drones inanely, I guess he's told to fill the air time somehow but I don't need him chewing my ear off when England are going life and death with a bunch of cheats. The same goes for the frequent cut away shots of drooling opposition fans gurning at the camera, doesn't normally register but I just wanted to watch the action on the pitch tonight.

I think that just about every other person who has ever watched a game of football before saw that it was head to jaw (not elbow) and therefore a straight red?

At least Hoddle knows what he's talking about, unlike so e of the commentators.

Not enough for a red card IMO. Though when a player is rolling round pretending to be hurt when he doesn't seem to know where it hit him, that suggests he wasn't hit hard. Maguire's antics were a bit off too.
Besides, if that constitutes violent conduct, then perhaps Henderson was lucky to get just a booking for his tiny head-butt?

Commentators at this World Cup are intent upon giving out stats such as the one tonight "This is this first time that an England player has scored 3 penalties at a World Cup." In truth, it is the first time that England have ever been awarded 3 spot kicks at a World Cup. It has not yet dawned on the commentators that the introduction of VAR makes all previous statistics on penalties irrelevant. If you are not a penalty taker highly unlikely you will win the Golden Boot award.

Tyldsley is an horrendous commentator, gives his opinion to the watching millions who can’t answer back. Commentate on what you see then shut the **** up Clive.

Spent most of the evening shouting obscenities at the tv set asking Clive to do as you say. When he started talking about playing Sweden next when we were approaching the 90th minute I was looking up numbers for contract killers.
If we want an arrogant opinionated non expert, why don't we go the whole way and replace him with Piers Morgan for next time?

Hoddle is a bit like Danny Murphy in being a bit monotone but they both know what they are talking about unlike some others.

England always seem to play better in tournaments on the BBC (although I’ve no stats to back that up) so I’m relieved the Sweden match is on the Beeb!

Well almost. Danny Murphy was convinced we should have had a penalty for the headbutt on Henderson. It took a minute or so and presumably someone telling the commentator the rules for them to explain you can’t award a penalty when the ball is dead.

You're right - there was a piece in the Grauniad yesterday about it - our playing record live on BBC, about 50% win ratio, that on ITV way below. Always nice to have a stat to back up your own prejudices. ITV should spent their money on ballsing up other stuff.

Hoddle ends every comment with a question. "He shoulda done better shouldn't he? "That looked off-side didn't it?" He knows what doing doesn't he?"
It used to get on my tits until I started to count them. The record so far is 42 in one game.

I cringed on many an occasion listening to Tyldsley particularly. Can`t recall exactly the verbal diarreah but...
"it`s easier to lose it when the man in charge isn`t losing it."
I`ve also never known a man tempt fate so much whilst a game is ongoing.
I talked to him during Euro `96 and he came across as a complete cock.

One thing Hoddle was spot on with last night was saying that England players cannot react to the Columbian antics.
He knows that the gamesmanship has cost England in multiple tournaments.

Not a big fan of Talksport's commentators normally, but listen again to the penalties last night. It gives me goosebumps. They completely lost it!

You mean when he got head butted? Twice? And it got reviewed? And it was a yellow card?
What did you want Henderson to do? He's just been given the opportunity to reduce Colombia to ten men in an exceptionally important game, of course he's going to go down.

Yes - he was. In a PL game both would have been sent off. If the ref had missed it I'm sure it would have been have been reviewed and both players would be facing three game bans.

And how many adverts did they squeeze in during extra time and pennos. Completely ruined the build-up to a big moment.

It was head to jaw. Don't suppose anyone has ever been head butted in the jaw but the force is transferred upwards through the jawbones and the impact is felt at the base of the skull, hence you would grab your head in the way Henderson did.
It also hurts. A lot. Hence you go down when it happens.
Cannot imagine why anyone would want to justify the Ref copping out, or suggest somehow that Henderson was cheating.

Head injuries clearly hurt a lot - far more than they used to, in fact. The number of players going down in desperate pain with head injuries is frightening.
If they introduiced an automatic 10-minute concussion review with no substitute, I wonder how many players would suffer severe head injuries then?

jesus, you lot should try watching a game over here on Fox when they have an American commentating along with Warren Barton - more often than not if the game is on on a different channel in spanish I prefer that option
