Jordan Henderson a doubt

Post by bumba » Mon Jul 09, 2018 7:59 am

Injury doubt for Wednesday according to SkySports, massive loss if true Eric Dier has looked terrible so far when he's played. Much weaker team with him in the starting 11. Thought we'd win until i heard this im now 50/50

Henderson is more of a captain on the field than Kane , he would be a huge miss.

Henderson is vital in the system we play. It's 30 games in a row now without a defeat when Henderson has played.
Dier is abysmal in that role.

Let's hope he can recover, he would be a big loss.

In the games Croatia have struggled in recent times it's been against teams with a defensive midfield setup so I'm not too worried.

We have enough attacking midfielders without him and like I said it could actually be a better balance to suit playing this particular team. Also Luka Modric tore Henderson a new one, the last time they met!

60/40 Croatia then, that big of a loss and Dier is that bad in that role.
Never tackles easily beaten too slow one pace no energy no drive.
Henderson is vital to how we play and Croatia's midfield is one of the best in the world they'll tear Dier apart

Seems to be based on a Daily Star story with no quotes from anybody. Not in any of the other papers, not on the BBC coverage.

The Daily Star doing its bit for Queen and country, playing mind games with Croatia.

I'm sure they've fallen for it and are basing their tactics on Henderson not playing.

Huge player for England. One of the top performers for us so far in this World Cup and my opinion of him has changed completely since he's been playing under Klopp. We are much much weaker without him.

He's that good at what he does I don't notice if he's playing or not - and I'm not being sarcastic. He'll be a big miss if not playing, but that said - I'm not sure we can play through Croatia's midfield like we'd like as they're so strong in there.

Didn't used to rate hm, but he has had a magnificent tournament. Would certainly be a loss. I'd consider Delph - who has played very well in the minutes he's had - in his place ahead of Dier.

It's night and day when he's not playing, moves the ball really well and is a natural leader in the middle of the pitch. Croatia really struggled against Denmark when Denmark pushed their full backs further up the pitch which stopped Croatia playing so much in Denmark's half of the pitch. They were lucky to get through that game but they do have the talent to win against us.

I was presuming we would play the 2 `holding` midfielders against a more attack-minded Croatia, even if Henderson was playing. If he is out and Southgate wanted to play more of a 3-5-1-1...

Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire
Trippier Dier Delph Lingard Young
Sterling
Kane

I`m not sure I have the confidence in Dier`s mobility to `keep an eye on` Modric, on his lonesome.

I don't want Dier in the starting eleven as a CM/DM. Only place he's looked remotely comfortable is when he filled in at CB when Walker went off with cramp against Colombia.
Delph for Henderson but Southgate will go with Dier as he's already shown.

To reiterate my point, seems to be based on a Daily Star article with zero quotes.

Compare the opening lines of the paragraph with the inflammatory headline.

This highlights the stupidity in not taking Wilshire. The loss of Henderson leaves only one central midfielder. Dier. Dumb and Dumber. Well at least we won’t have to experience any further primeval screams from Southgate.

Something about Wilshere’s twitter rantings over not being included that suggests to me it wasn’t entirely footballing reasons that lead to his exclusion. Strikes me as a sulker - ditto if he wasn’t picked in the starting XI. Big reason for this team’s success so far is the dressing room mentality. Similar to Dyche here I feel.

Delph was a central midfielder in his previous life.

Would you rather go to the law firm of Dier & Delph or Delph & Dier?

I`d plump for the former. The latter sounds more like a dodgy pair of plumbers.

"JH took a full part in today's training session, along with Jamie Vardy.
Fears about Henderson's hamstring appear to have eased."

Good news. And still two days to go.

Wilshere is a legend in his own schoolboy lunchbox.

He is exactly the type of character the squad will not miss one bit.

He is in the right place at the moment - out of work!

In the unlikely event of him signing for Burnley he would of course receive my full support.

I read a stat the other week in that every time an England player does a press conference under Southgate, they start the next game. Eric Dier has just done one.

Both him and Henderon to start?

Excellent news about both :D ,Vardy won't start but could be a usual impact sub in the last half-hour,if the game becomes more stretched.

Dier was made redundant when GS decided to play three at the back.

There was another article with an interview with Southgate on skysports too which quoted Southgate as saying Henderson was taken off early on Saturday due to a tight hamstring and would be assessed.

So there's one very important quote from the most important man
