Disappointed but ..

Hardly post on here , but was thinking that it would have been great if England had won ( especially as 1000s of Croatians are now going apeshit
where I live , in Munich) , but honestly I'm much more gutted when Burnley lose a bog standard league match.
Just wondering how other Clarets cope emotionally, with such an England defeat, compared to to a "normal " Burnley one ?

Strange one. Usually handle defeat pretty well whoever I am supporting England, Burnley, LHCC. Every now and then some hurt slightly more than others though and I dwell on the what might have been. I liken last nights England defeat to the Clarets FA Cup defeat against Lincoln it feels like a real opportunity spurned. Lets face it though far worse things happen in life I can personally certainly vouch for that.

If we all start our own thread expressing our feelings regards England's recent World Cup exit it will make this messageboard megadocious.

International matches don't affect me in nearly the same way as a club match. I'll watch international football but find it hard to get excited about it at all. Even when I went to Ireland-Italy in Lille. Yes, I enjoyed that Ireland won, but I got more carried away with us scoring against Morecambe and Grimsby

We did well reaching the final four. We enjoyed some great goals and individual performances. What a great World Cup Trippie had! I hope his injury isn't going to keep him out of the game for several months...the lad doesn't deserve that.

I feel ok today and I'm now looking forward to Burnley's upcoming games. UTC!

Couldn’t get excited about it. We did well enough overall in the competition. We were stronger mentally and more comfortable on the ball. Trippier, Maguire and Henderson were the standouts. On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is how bothered I am about a Burnley match, last night was about 2.5

It really was once in a life time opportunity and again luck was with them with an early goal..one more goal in the first half and they would most likely made the final...so disappointed more than usual as I don't expect to see a shot like that again.

Apologies to Diesel for starting another thread, but I was interested in other Clarets feelings about
an England defeat in a major match, and enjoy reading the responses so far. Utc

"It really was once in a life time opportunity"

You don't know that.

I think there will be more opportunities to be honest. Give these lads another 4 years and we can look forward to another good run to equal this, whoever we play. In fact I think we might just surprise a lot of people come the Euros in two years. There are weaknesses yes, we are a bit weak in midfield and I'm not too certain about our strikers as yet but that may improve, but we have a good bunch of young players and a manager who seems to know what he wants and largely gets it. For the first time in a very long time I feel quite confident about England's future.

We'll be saying the same things again in another 4 years & so on, the problems run far deeper, why we never seem to win anything of note (not for a long time anyhow) a lot of homegrown talent is getting restricted not necessarily by the smaller less elite teams, until that changes the national team underachieving sounds like a broken record.

It was just a game of football which we lost. Nothing more

I think you are right in that that has been the case for a long time but what we have now is something we haven't had for a long time, a good basic squad that just needs tweaking/adding to, to make it an excellent one. Southgate is a refreshing manager in that, with the exception of the massively under-achieving Sterling, he has been picking players who are young and in form, as opposed to old and a 'face'. Sterling will probably start scoring at some time as well so the future is good. It would be helped if we could limit the number of foreigners per team but the money now dictates that every foreigner, even bad ones, wants to play here. The authorities here are still arrogant enough to think that they come for the prestige of playing in 'the greatest league in the world' (I would argue with that) but the reality is they come for the money , end of.

Either way I have seen enough over the last 3 weeks or so to think that we may be going into competitions with high hopes before long instead of thinking 'quarter finals and we will have done well'.
