The whole story seems to reek of propaganda against Russia.

What I do with something like this is find an expert, and read what he has to say about it.

I wouldn't dream of suggesting such a sensible course of action to someone as knowledgeable as yourself, but this guy is good.

So you go to the trouble of trying to murder someone with a very potent and illegal chemical but fail. It's just slightly unlikely that you haven't done your homework on the dosage etc. So you then chuck it into the nearest wheelie bin and scarper. It's beyond a really crap episode of the Avengers from the 1960s. Wake up people FFS.

Except any alternative theory is at least equally(I'd say more) unlikely.

The conspiracy theorists, as usual, cling to the comfort blanket because, and I do understand this, it's actually more reassuring to think that our government is behind this and has it all under control, however madly and badly. Just like it's more reassuring to think our government knew everything about Saddam, down to what he had for breakfast, and made up some stuff rather than the scarier alternative that they don't know nearly as much as they need to to keep us safe.

A minority of people just love a conspiracy theory no matter how unbelievable it is. I'm a sceptical person myself and not apt to believe everything people tell me without checking that it seems plausible.
I still think the vast majority of conspiracy theories are crazy and put about by people who want to feel that they are cleverer than the majority.

The official story here (Russian(s), directly Putin backed or not, introduced this agent to the UK to target an "enemy of the state" and didnt care too much about any collateral damage) seems the best explanation to me.
I just hope the collateral damage is limited to the ones we know about already.

Putin's "bots" will be working overtime to feed the conspiracy theories though.

Let's just say I have an open mind on this..
