Istanbul - Potential Travel Arrangements

Is there any chance of the Club arranging travel should we progress past Aberdeen?
The only direct flights appear to be from Heathrow at nearly £800 a throw.
We do have a communications director / manager at the Club who doesn't seem able to communicate.
It would be nice to know sooner rather than the day before the game.

He communicated yesterday saying no there wouldn’t be anything arranged.
You could fly from Manchester for 300 quidish
...if we get through that is.

The timescale between the games makes it impossible for the club to get involved to be fair.

What was everyone’s opinion when Plymouth supposedly arranged and advertised travel to Wembley in 1994 before our Play Off?

Ive looked at chartering a plane. £525 each return for 150 people.
Not as much as I thought tbh

I think I'll be priced out of this one after Russia, Aberdeen and a family holiday. Gutted to be honest, it will be a great trip!

Be easy to get to. And for much less than 800 quid.

Not the best flights but you can still get direct flights from London for about £350-£400 (although I'd expect that to go up quite a bit by the time we know for certain).

I know what you're saying but with the costs and time scale involved you'd be daft not to be looking if you were intending on possibly going

A bit different. Doesn't take that long too get in a few coaches from Plymouth to London.
The club won't do it because it would take time, effort, significant planning and undoubtedly put the club at some risk financially (not much but some). They're just not geared up for it - probably never will be. They would probably end up getting bad publicity out of it because people would have to commit now and when push comes to shove (if we get there) the club will be left with the choice of taking the financial hit on no shows or having the publicity of "I couldn't go to Istanbul because my dog died but Burnley FC are still charging me £700"...

In all fairness a dog dying is a big deal.
As for the rest of it, does anyone know if other clubs helped fund travel to European Away games?

I think you need a visa which at the moment can be bought on line or at airport.
But lets not jump the gun here - Aberdeen is our first port of call

Nothing wrong with searching for travel options, or booking digs like a few clarets already have with free cancellation. I know a few who have.
The OP was referring to the club commenting on this, which is different.

Most clubs in Europe have contracts with Thomas Cook Sport. Rangers for example don’t have any organised travel for their next game. The timescales, aircraft availability and risk make it impossible to set up for the qualifying stages. However, I would fully expect that if, and it’s a very big if, we were to get through to the group stages then the club would more than likely contract travel out to a third party.
For me a flight into any Turkish tourist destination and connecting flight to Istanbul (if we beat Aberdeen and I really have my doubts to be honest).

If it's as easy as some make out on here to charter a big plane, it might be an idea for all the supporters clubs to work together and put one on.
They have the members and contacts to do it.

I presume the likes of Leisure from Accy Clarets will just stump up the £30,000 deposit required to guarantee an aircraft until everybody pays him? Not as easy as you think, that’s why all teams in Europe use a third party despite the criticism they get. Take Liverpool in the Champions League final for example.

You seem to know more about deposits for planes than me.

Quite possibly

In addition school holidays makes a very difficult time to find spare aircraft at a reasonable price.

I do have a specialist sports travel company working on some options for fly in/fly out travel. The major stumbling block is that there is only 1 week between the Aberdeen 2nd leg and the game. A minimum number of bookings would be required and , therefore, the risk of cancellation would have to be taken into account. Also, we may not have any info on ticket availability until after the Aberdeen 2nd leg and a fly in/fly out option would be no good without match tickets.

Good effort leisure. But I would save yourself the hassle.
Group stages maybe worth looking into. But i wouldnt bother with the headache. Its hard enough sorting a coach to man city i imagine.

I’m actually on holiday in Kalkan that week, and the internal flights are quite cheap. My concern is, how am I going to be able to collect my ticket? Will they allow you to collect them from the ground in Istanbul like you can in Aberdeen?

Why? Other clubs do it. I know the media manager has said we won't but I was surprised at how quickly he released that information.

I cant blame them. especially for the **** they gey for normal stuff.
Personally dont understand why anyone needs the club to sort it for them. Its 2018. Its easier quicker and cheaper not to mention more flexible to sort these things yourself.

Totally agree at the lack of communication and commitment from the Club.
Will we take an allocation of 25 should we get through?

Tony, group stages are far easier to arrange than qualifying rounds which have potentially 7 days notice and are slap bang in the middle of the school holidays. Airlines are very reluctant to release any spare aircraft at this time of year. Group matches would be totally different and I would fully expect that the club have already planned for this should we get that far.

Let’s face it, it’s a poor draw for us when considering that it’s mid-holiday season, costly compared with some of the other teams we could have drawn, and they’re also a blooming good side too.
When you take into account people will have next to no time to arrange time off work (if they’re not on holiday), book flights and accommodation, plus get tickets (we don’t know the rules for this one yet), it’s a headache. I can’t imagine more than a couple of hundred or so going IF we manage to beat Aberdeen.
I think back to Bolton and some of their games a decade ago: Munich, Marseille, Madrid, Lisbon (near)....they had it easy!

You are right for 50%, cause even me i book all my holiday day off in program about my team Inter, so i know that istanbul is not a good draw, but you must go cause is maybe a final occasion to see burnley in europe....look us after 4-5 years without europe, this year we are again in Champions and no matter where we go, RUSSIA, PORTUGAL or something else we gonna go!...it's our passion, so don't be scared to spend money in football!...

I've ridden my motorbike to Istanbul, then down to Gallipoli.
Three overnight stops should get you to Istanbul.
The roads/borders through Bulgaria, Serbia etc... are busy, especially at this time of year. Millions of Turks live/work in Western Europe, especially Germany, they head back to Turkey for holidays and really clog-up the route.
I've also ridden down to Venice and taken the 24 hour ferry to Greece, then on to Turkey, which cuts out 800 miles, but isn't any quicker time-wise.

The main roads through all of them are actually pretty good. especially by our pothole standards. (Not driven to or in turkey mind). But the roads through the balkans are great. amd absolutely stunning. If a little winding at times.

I think the club are deliberately not winding up Aberdeen by mentioning anything. Dyche and the players, in the interviews I saw, were conspicuous in the absence of Istanbul being mentioned. I suspect the club are doing things behind the scenes to agree dates and things (Basaksehir know they are playing one of us so they will be communicating with both clubs now).

It's a UEFA requirement for the clubs to discuss with potential opponents immediately. I would suspect both us and Aberdeen will have to send over people next week to discuss all the arrangements with them and they will be visiting both us and Aberdeen.
