MEE v DAWSON question
MEE v DAWSON question
If we signed Dawson would he be on the same money or more than what Mee is asking for ? if the answer to that is Dawson will be on more than what Mee is asking for then why not give Mee what he wants ? That also does not count the 15m-20m to sign Dawson.

Re: MEE v DAWSON question
Its all about squad harmony and our wages ceiling.
It's not a question of can or can't we afford it.
It's whether Ben wants to sign, accepts our wages structure and whether he wants to be paid more or play more

Re: MEE v DAWSON question
accepted but are you saying if Mee accepted our wage ceiling Burnley would no way on deadline day panicing get the chance of signing Dawson but reject the chance because he wants more than what they had got Mee to sign for ?

Re: MEE v DAWSON question
I suspect we bid on Dawson and Mawson because Ben Mee is leaving in this window or will run his contract down so we get nothing. Buying Dawson or Mawson just as cover makes no financial sense. A 4th CB is needed but we could have gone for Flint at £7m if cover was what was needed.

Dawson would score a lot more goals than Mee for sure !

But he isn’t as good at his primary job - defending.Vegas Claret wrote:Dawson would score a lot more goals than Mee for sure !

I don't know if he is or isn't tbh, he's been in the PL longer than MeeBurnleyFC wrote:But he isn’t as good at his primary job - defending.
Re: MEE v DAWSON question
If Ben Mee leaves then we need to replace him with a LEFT sided centre back
We would also need another centre back who could be right sided like Craig Dawson

Counter balanced by the 15m-20m we will get for Mee.s6t9a2f3f wrote:That also does not count the 15m-20m to sign Dawson
Offer Ben what he's worth, which I think is 50k a week, if he wont sign, sell him.
If anyone is prepared to offer him more, I don't think anybody is/will then they will naturally in accordance with that wage offer be prepared to pay around 18m, so we take it.
...OR, does nobody want him?

As commented earlier, it may not be about the moneyDiesel wrote:Counter balanced by the 15m-20m we will get for Mee.

Of course it's about money but the op is suggesting we pay Ben what we would have to pay Dawson PLUS the fee that it would cost to sign him.boatshed bill wrote:As commented earlier, it may not be about the money

Maybe, maybe not, could be he just wants a new challenge. They're all millionaires so does it really just come down to getting a pay rise?Diesel wrote:Of course it's about money but the op is suggesting we pay Ben what we would have to pay Dawson PLUS the fee that it would cost to sign him.
Re: MEE v DAWSON question
He'll be looking for 80k a week considering he'll be a free agent next year.boatshed bill wrote:Maybe, maybe not, could be he just wants a new challenge. They're all millionaires so does it really just come down to getting a pay rise?
Well you won't get it at Burnley, Ben and rightly so.

No, he certainly won't. I have to say if he's not happy the sell him, no good having players around who'd rather be elsewhere.Diesel wrote:He'll be looking for 80k a week considering he'll be a free agent next year.

Re: MEE v DAWSON question
I don't think he necessarily wants to be elsewhere, he's 28-29 this is his last big contract deal, he's in a fantastic negotiating position, why would anyone not get every penny they could?boatshed bill wrote:No, he certainly won't. Re: MEE v DAWSON question
Why, plenty of right footers play successfully at LCB? Indeed, didn’t England actually play five right footed players across the back in the World Cup?mkmel wrote:If Ben Mee leaves then we need to replace him with a LEFT sided centre back
