the oven is only heating up to about half power. only part of the element is heating up.
a few questions.
is it simple to fix yourself?
is it worth repairing or will cost be to expensive.
depending on answers can someone recommend someone to fix
or perhaps someone to supply and fit a new one.

It's dead easy to do it yourself, match your part on eBay, two bolts to get the element out, new one in.

Cost: 7-8 quid, do not pay someone to do it.

You will probably find the cooker has two elements one in the bottom under the steel sheet and another at the top which serves as a top element and the grill. Don't assume that because one part doesn't glow that it's knackered, different parts of the element can be different wattages. There is an outfit called the Element Man in Birmingham that stock all the most common elements and usually deliver next day. The other poster must have found a bargain basement because I paid around 30 quid for mine. But it did the trick. They are quite simple to replace, just a couple of terminals and a couple of screws holding the thing in the applicance. If you look down the insides of the door frame with the door open you shopuld see four or six screws holdinmg the tning in the cabinet. Un do thos and just slide it out. They aren't that heavy but it woul,d probably be best to have two of you and a blanket or old piece of carpet to land it on

Cheaper than I originally quoted.

Had similar happen to mine the other week. Got a new element from eSpares and took about 20 minutes to replace. Just a case of unscrewing the panel at the back of the oven, unscrewing the element and removing the 2 wires

If you have a multimeter then you can check the element to see what its resistance is and this will give you confidence that you have the right diagnosis. Plenty of videos on You Tube showing how to do this


Double check that your oven has an easy access panel inside, some don't and require you to pull the whole oven out.

I wouldn't go for a cheap one, it's a false economy. Paid about £30 for mine although I'm sure I could have found the same cheaper. I trust eSpares which is why I went with them. Would personally avoid the ones labelled as "budget"

Do you have ovenU in your area? I believe there's one in Preston, maybe Burnley. I live in Norfolk and have used ovenU several times. Excellent work, leaving my oven looking as good as new.

I don't have a watch at all, other than an old Count Duckula thing but I haven't worn that in a while.

I spent £30 on my element for the same reason that I would spend multiple pounds on a single screwdriver even though I can get a pack of 6 from the pound shop

It depends on quality really. If the one at £6 is the same quality as the one at £30 then you'd go for the £6 one.

You generally get what you pay for, assuming you shop around and are comparing like for like.

If the warranty is different (longer) thats justified, I never realised in terms of quality partwise there is much difference, I’m a service engineer (not electrical appliances) though so I do know parts can vary qualitywise, the part was whirlpool listed with a 60 day return. I think sometimes people can be mislead thinking that a higher price means better quality, maybe I’m wrong I’m willing to accept that if their is a substantial difference in quality of parts.

You're absolutely correct that price isn't necessarily a guarantee of quality, and it sounds like you got a good product for a low price.

For me I had 2 options. Pay around £30 for a branded product with guarantee or pay £15 for one listed as "budget" from the same websites

The part was whirlpool £6 a tad over, I know with generic & non generic parts prices differ, regarding other situations I’ve used cheaper parts & they,ve performed exactly the same. Maybe you’re right on these particular parts for me warranty is a dealclincher & I’d usually pay more to get that.
