Defour’s injury

Has anyone said exactly what it is?

Dyche said last night that he won’t be fit for Sunday, so he’s as good as missed the whole of preseason. You have to think he’s not going to feature at all in August, as he’ll be way behind the rest of the squad.

He was up and down the stairs with coffees in the JHU last night...was sat at the back with Michael Duff

Real shame - he gives us an edge.

Probably injure himself doing that, did he last the 120 minutes ?

One of the reasons we need another central midfielder. We’ve not enough guile without Defour in the team and for all Westwood does a job, he’s not comparable.

Agreed but I really like Westwood in the side. He moves the ball on so much quicker than Jack Cork, who likes time to pick his pass. One of the reasons I’d play all three and go three at the back but it’s not happening.

Wasn’t it Westwood who dinked that ball forward for our first last night. He’s not Defour, but he’s just fine for me.

Last week at Aberdeen apart, when he was poor, Westwood is proving to be a very good player for us.

As for Defour, he was handling the coffee cups well. I do agree with the OP though, doubt we'll see either him or Brady in August, but we need to get them fully fit. These little injuries often occur after a long injury lay off.

I'm hoping Clucas in our new central midfielder and not our new wide player. I know he can play wide but I would prefer to see someone else come in to cover that position. Clucas is hopefully Marney's replacement - not Arfield's.

Defour has Chinese calf.
One of those ever present niggles, which disappears on completion of a transfer...

Heaton may have caught it, either off him or Jordan Pickford.

As far as I'm aware defour's original injury was very similar to mine long time ago, ACL and chip bone which resulted in loss of cartilage, bone grows back but not cartilage, I had stem cell repair from my own cells, which is very similar to this one, I was lucky enough to have manure's surgeon but still never been the same, obviously very difficult to recover from, presumably he's recovered from what we're led to believe but picked up some knock or other, none of this is fact, just my own observation of reports, make of it what you will.

I was thinking exactly the same. A CM ground coverer who can help higher up the pitch when needed

He was coming up the stairs just after HT and I asked how long will it be until he is back -
He said two weeks
Here's hoping, but it will be Joey time afterwards

Presumably two weeks to resume training. Then he’s got to make up for zero preseason.

Fact is Westwood contributed more last season than Defour did to getting us on this European Adventure.

Westwood is another of the players who plays damn well nut certain people slag off. Marney went from that to Cult status.

Cant be doing with all this negativity. get me on a plane to Istanbul!

Brady was entered into our Europa League squad whereas Defour was not.

I was a bit surprised when seeing the omission on the back of the programme so checked UEFAs website which confirmed it.

I assume squads get reset for the group stages?

Westwood did fine but Defour was our best player before his injury so that top sentence is nonsense

I think they can change the squad for each round.

Westwood's done well when called upon, but Defour is the best footballer at the club and can't get back soon enough. If we do stick to the 451 I'd swap Defour into Hendrick's role, he used to play further up the field when younger and Hendrick, while I think he's a good centre mid, is just not suited to the role. It'd mean playing it more on the deck though due to loss of height/physicality, which I'm not sure we've got the all-round personnel to do just yet- JBG, Brady and Lennon are all tidy footballers but you need a forward with a bit more ability with it at his feet than we have currently. Which would make Jay ideal, really.

We got the bulk of our points when Brady and Defour were playing well together. 34 before Xmas wasn’t it?

Clucas is the new Defour.
Defour is either eating or learning mandarin!
