For those Clarets travelling to Istanbul, a little information of passport and visa's.

1. As most people are aware a visa is required to enter Turkey. This cost $20 in advance through the on-line service and slightly more expensive when purchasing on arrival.
2. Passports need to have 150 days validity left on the passport when entering Turkey. It is possible to enter with less validity than this but there is a fine payable on arrival.
3. Anything under 60 days validity get an appointment with the passport office quick as they won't let you in.
4. Unlikely, but for any Clarets travelling on anything other than a full UK Citizen passport (for example a British Overseas passport) you will need a consulate visa in advance of travelling.

Anybody has any doubts please ask as I can get you the answer.

So if I am reading this right. My mates passport runs out Feb 20th next year. If he gets a 90 day visa his passport would still get him entry into turkey?

Correct he will be fine. Exact wording is as follows.

You will be refused entry into Turkey should your passport expire sixty days prior to the expiry date of your visa.

They don't make it easy to understand but he will be fine.
