Everything seems to have escalated in the last couple of days. Relatively quiet for most of the window and then a barrage of reports, links and rumours all at once. It's entertaining at least.

What can be frustrating is the way we remain silent...until the deals are done.
I like it that way though. It's considerably more professional than other clubs way of `leaking` stories, and prevents us getting a bit giddy about the `six` players that are coming. This way, we get two and it's a step forward - and that's because it IS a step forward.

If we sign
Hart
Gibson
Clucas
Deeney
That wont be a bad window. Arguably we need at least a winger and another forward but the above wont be too bad.
It will also show to all those who panic about our lack of business and so called targets (my self included) that nobody knows **** all about any of our business or targets until the deal is almost done. And rightly so.
Not one of those names was mentioned until the last week or so.
I'd like someone quick and skilful in. Or a bit more creativity. But all of the above are typical dyche signings.
A player in Joe Hart who has had his mentality and ability questioned and had lost his way so needs someone to sort his career back out.
A promising but not inexperienced English centre half.
A hard working, versatile if unflashy midfielder.
And a big, direct, physical striker who knows where the net is.
On the face of it they are perfect signings.

Thanks Tony for update. If these come off and we get Jay that would be an unbelievable window
Having watched the Aberdeen game a different striker to what we have ie JR or Assombolonga would make us a serious PL team and maybe then release Wells or Walters or both

Hart, Gibson, Clucas and Rodriguez - if all those were to come that would be a very good transfer window. Gibson at c£15m would be a great deal.

Id prefer Rodriguez over Deeney as well given a choice, but is there much between them age and record wise ?.If Jay wasnt a Burnley lad would it make a difference ? SD has worked with Deeney before as well.

Its playing style. Deene is very much like what we already have. We have missed a number 10 since I gs left and unless Gudmundsson is going to play there we need to bring one in.

I'd be very happy with that. A lot of people on here seem to dislike Deeney but he'd be class for us under Dyche, I've no doubt.

If there are no outgoings 4 signings of Hart Gibson Clucas, Jay or Troy gives us our 25 players with no room for anyone else assuming we list 3 keepers leaving Pope off the list. We will have spent (apparently) £4mill Hart, £15mill Gibson, £8mill Clucas and say £20 or £12mill on Jay/Troy and that for us with £98mill guaranteed is quite a slice of the budget at £39-£47mill. If the wage bill is approaching £70 mill then I think we may be using some of that dry powder until we sell a keeper and Ben Mee. Personally it may be better to let Mee go and use a bit more dry powder for Dawson as well. Mee's value after this transfer window will be falling.

You can't compare Rodriguez and Deeney, completely different styles. Jay Rod would fill a hole in our Squad, Deeney is too much like Barnes, and I'd prefer Barnes any day.
Gibson could be a steal at that price.
Hart has to be a bargain as well considering what goalkeepers fetch nowadays.
Clucas I'm not sure of still, but at 8mill he would be a bargain if SD can get the best out of him.
Jay Rod, I just wish we'd stop dithering at get the deal done. There is nothing to show that they are going to change their minds as time moves on, and our past dealings with the club confirm that scenario.

If Deeney is coming surely 1 of our 3 front line strikers is off. Sadly it might be ash as he is the 1 that another Pl club would want. Forget Deeney, it's that nr 10 we need.

Heaton , Pope, Lowton, Ward, Taylor
Bardsley, Mee, Tarks, Long, Cork
JBG, Brady, Defour, Westwood, Hendrick
Vokes, Barnes, Wood, Lennon, Wells
Walters, Lindegaard, Legzdins
I make that 23 already with no new signings.

Dont completely understand the Deeney link. Rodriguez makes sense as someone who can play in behind the striker as a natural link man, comfortable both prompting from deep and joining in with the striker. It was clear on Thursday night that we lack that.
Deeney is completely different- hes a line leader and a battering ram.

I’m hoping Troy Deeney and Joe Hart is just media talk, i think Jay Rod would be a improvement , I wish the club would come out and be a bit more open and transparent regarding injuries and signings,
I don’t think for one minute joe Hart would ever consider playing for Burnley , and I think he is only here for the ego boost, and I’m sure there are better keepers who wouldn’t cost 4 million and silly wages,
As much as a adore SD , one or two of his transfer dealings haven’t worked out, I just hope he changes his mind about Deeney and Hart, they both look like desperate last minute deals

What possible reason would there be for the club to publicise the players they are trying sign? The only circumstance I can see any sense in doing so is if it was a smokescreen to try and get the best deal for another player.
Can you name better keepers for £4m?

From those 23 remove two keepers as Pope is crocked and Legzdins was never in our 25 last season. So that leaves us 25 if we sign Hart Gibson Clucas and one of Deeney/Jay. There may be outgoings but not one of our 3 named keepers and no one would want Pope just now. There remains speculation about Mee and also some think Defour could be off. Many on here would like to see Walters and Wells gone too meaning we have plenty of room for incomings, far more than will be with us by 5pm on Thursday.
There is a lot of talk about Mee not signing but we have Sam and Jeff OOC at the same time as Ben Mee but there is no chatter at all about them.

We haven't really got such a battering ram. Vokes is not strong enough and Woods certainly isn't. Therefore Deeney would be a good addition and I think that pushes Vokes down a bit.

I think to call it a very good transfer window is pushing it. I'd be happy with theses 4 but it will only be just around par for the course maybe slightly better and the fact its taking us right to the wire to get them in is acceptable but very good would be managing to get a few deals done early in the window

I completely disagree but of course it's a matter of opinion. I certainly wouldn't describe it as par.

If we end up with 5 goalkeepers but Kevin Long still as 3rd choice centre back then the window will have been a failure. At least one centre half is a must, we need two if Mee departs.
Desperately need something different to a “big lad” upfront, so Deeney for me is a definite no. We need to add subtlety and guile, not an ageing battering ram.
I’m assuming Clucas is being signed to play in midfield as we’re certainly lacking for cover in this area. What we don’t need is another paceless wideman, we’re amply covered there.
Gibson looks the best pick of a fairly uninspiring bunch.

I think those 4 would make it a solid window, somewhere between the extremes.
The only obvious 'gap' would be a 4th winger as an understudy to our 3 main wingers. That's an annoying gap, but not too many squads are perfect.
Not sure a first choice team with Defour, Rodriguez, JBG and Brady or Lennon lacks creativity.

Whilst I get what you mean, the whole argument loses out as soon as “five year deal” and “thirty year old” is mentioned. West Brom won’t fall for that... a headline like that could be written by Peter Kay!
I would be a little underwhelmed if we were after deeney in the first place, but the terms quoted would have me questioning SD’s thinking for the first time. And his sanity....

We are not short of widemen, Brady, JBG, Lennon, McNeill and Clucas? can play out there.
There was talk on here of JBG playing as the 10 in a pre-season game, I could live with that. Tremendous workrate, skill to beat a man and he gets his shot off(just needs to get it inside the post!)
Deeney seemed to go off last year, even rested a few times whilst captain. Not for me.

Bang on that one - we got to Walsall for the game and saw Chris Woods lining up and were told Marlon had been sold. Strangely, he was playing so poorly at the time, and had cost us the points at Carlisle in the previous game, that Wood coming in helped us to stay up.

We definitely are short of wide men. Clucas hasn't signed, McNeill is a kid with 2(?) appearances and Brady is injured a lot. That's Lennon and JBG. I bet there aren't many teams with fewer wide men, no recognised sub to bring on, no cover if one gets (or is) injured.
It's the same as with centre backs last (and this) season, we got very lucky and just about came through with Long.

I’m hoping we see a lot more of McNeill and Taylor in front of Ward would make us incredibly strong down that flank and Taylor does get his crosses in.

I do not understand the Hart signing unless Heaton and Pope are both out long term. Lindegaard can do a job short term. Gibson and Clucas would be great signings as would J Rod. Dont see Deeney coming to Burnley. It would take him 6 months to get Dyche fit !.
If we can sign Gibson and Clucas plus have Defour and Brady fit and back to their best then we should do fine. J Rod would be a huge bonus.
