Nixon says we are after 10 mill for vokes which is putting boro off

In this market he is worth 12-15m in my eyes.
Stoke are asking for £15m for Mame Biram-Diouf for example (unbeliavably).

I would say 10 is a fair price with entering the last stage of his contract

No scoring Bamford went for £15m
Sam is an international Premier league goal scorer
£20m min our days of giving players away are long gone
But I want him to stay

We need Vokes.
All our strikers got injured last year at some point. We can't afford to lose him.

We’d have to bring a replacement in first surely? Ok he’s not getting in the starting eleven that often, but he’s first choice sub if we’re playing two up front.

That would only leave Barnes and (injury prone) Wood

Bamford's record in the Championship:
Derby: 14 starts, 7 sub appearances, 8 goals
Boro: 55 starts, 22 sub appearances, 28 goals

If £10m is putting Boro off make it £15m just to be on the safe side.
We cannot afford to lose Sam Vokes.

Vokes, Wells and Walters out.
Rodriguez, Vydra and Crouch in.
Surely not...

If that was our transfer dealings along with Hart then I would be very happy. I'd be even happier if we didn't get Crouch and kept Vokes instead though.

True, but the majority of those goals were in an 18 month purple patch in 2014 and 15. Think his records was fairly average at Boro last season.

Everyone can see how effective Sam is at putting the ball in the net from our corners.
What they tend to miss is how good he is at keeping the ball out of our net from oppositions corners.
Big Sam is an important part of our squad. That goal against Aberdeen was a cracker.
He is in the final year of his contract which puts a financial spin on things, but I hope he stays with us.

And contrast that to Wood’s headed ‘clearance’ against Aberdeen.

Far be it for me to promote Bamford, and I agree he had that purple patch at Derby & Boro. Last season he started 23, sub 16 and scored 11. 9 of those goals came in a run of 7 games in Feb & March.

If our valuation us met I can only think we already have another striker lined up, or that the fee for Vokes would allow us to increase our bid for Jay.

I'd be disappointed if Sam left as he's a vital part of our team. I'm sure he also wants to stay in the PL.

I’d be shocked if the amount we offer for Rodriguez is dependent on selling a player!

I'd rather have Sam and £8m than Jay and I think Jay would be a really. Good signing.

There may be nothing in it but if there is it could even be that Sam wants a move. He did only start 7 Premier League games last season.

Obviously don't want to see Sam leave, however with only a year left on his contract (and no sign of us renewing? unless I have missed something) and the fact I am sure he wants (and fitness wise needs) to be playing regularly can understand if he moved elsewhere, as mentioned above hopefully we have identified a replacement? but please not Peter Crouch!

Absolute disaster to get rid of Sam imo, gives so much to the team, only reason his goals per game ratio isn't better is because he doesn't get enough game time.

If I was Sam that would be my view. This guy is a proven international and he may not end up playing enough games throughout his career.
He is fortunate or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it, that he is now at a top half prem team. This is in no small part due to him and yet bringing in top players now means he may play even less...at least there may be more games this year to keep the fringe players happy.
Tbh he was a bit harshly dropped after an early game last season (given the performance at Chelsea)...but he always seems to have a great attitude and that’s why it would be great if he stays

My thinking entirely and I was going to post the same until I saw this. Sam is an international with plenty of PL experience and although not the greatest at this level he can score, especially when he comes on as sub, he rattles them. It is distinctly possible that he doesn't want to spend another season sitting on the bench, even in the PL, and if he went to a Championship club he would be worth millions to them at that level as he has proved. Maybe he has had a word with Sean and maybe they don't want to lose him but won't stand in his way. And don't forget there are a number of Championship clubs who would pay him more than we do.

Vydra and Jay in for Vokes and Wells would be ok.
I like Vokes though and Vydra doesn’t replace what he brings to the team.

If Wood had had an injury free season, he would most likely have scored 18-20 goals. Player stats show Wood scores are far higher.

They are very different types of players and both are needed in the squad. If we are getting anyone in it should be Wells/Walters making way if possible.

I'd be very disappointed to see Vokes go.
I do think he's undervalued generally, possibly the best bench option we've ever had in my time watching Burnley.
And over the course of the season in the PL - that's worth £10M in itself.

I'd definitely keep Sam. It's a shame he only gets cameo roles for us, but he never lets us down.
On the other hand, if he is after more games, and thinks he needs to leave to find them, then we shouldn't stand in his way, he's earned the opportunity.
I would still want a replacement through the door first, before I let him go.
Maybe a deal could be struck with WBA, a partnership of Vokes and Gayle could come off in the championship.

its unlikely he'd have got 18-20. lukaku only got 16.
pointless projecting what could have happened because he didn't have an injury free season and has already had problems in pre-season.

Probably me being dense as usual but how does this spin out? I assume he is travelling to Istanbul today. The deadline is 5pm Thursday and we have a game at 7pm over yonder. So is he going, is he staying behind, might he have to fly back to Teeside Flight Tracker style. Like I say, probably me missing something obvious..
